  • The Miami Heat are 7.5-point favorites versus the San Antonio Spurs Saturday
  • This matchup takes place in Mexico City, the first game south of the border since 2019
  • Read below for the Heat vs Spurs odds and predictions

The San Antonio Spurs (9-19, 14th West) went into South Beach last week to bounce the Miami Heat (15-15, 8th East).

If they’re going to sweep the season series — in seven days, no less — they’ll need to go even more south to get it done.

The game will be showcased in Mexico City at the Arena Ciudad de Mexico, the 31st time the NBA has tipped off south of the border.

Miami comes in winners of four of their last five, while San Antonio just had their three-game win streak snapped last time out against the Portland Trail Blazers.

It all gets underway Saturday (December 17), with tip off set for 5pm ET, in a game you can see live on NBA TV.

The NBA odds lean heavily on Miami, who are pegged as hefty 7.5-point favorites and -333 on the moneyline.

San Antonio took the previous contest 115-111, notable as it’s one of the few times the Heat have played with a full roster, one that they definitely won’t have in Mexico City.

Miami Betting Outlook

After a struggle of a start to the season, the Heat climbed to .500, following a tough back-to-back set, beating the OKC Thunder 110-108 and then hanging on to outlast the Houston Rockets 111-108.

Tyler Herro did major work in both games. He calmed the Thunder with a game-high 35 points, including a crisp 9-for-17 mark from three-point range.

He took it up a level the next night, blistering the Rockets for a career-high 41 points, and tying the franchise record by drilling 10 money balls. Jimmy Butler stuffed the stat sheet, with 20 points, 10 rebounds, seven dimes, four steals and three blocks.

Miami needed all that output, as they were missing starters Kyle Lowry (rest) and Bam Adebayo (ankle). There’s more to this story: Miami was fined $25,000 for failing to update the status of several players to available prior to the Thunder game.

Perhaps in defiance, and definitely tongue-in-cheek, the team listed every player on their roster on the injury list for Mexico City.

Gabe Vincent (knee) is out, while Adebayo (ankle), Dewayne Demon (foot) and Caleb Martin (ankle) are all questionable. Herro (ankle), Max Strus (shoulder), Duncan Robinson (ankle) and Victor Oladipo (knee) are all probable.

San Antonio Betting Outlook

After losing 16 of 17 games to officially announce themselves as draft tankers, the Spurs had ripped off three wins in a row before dropping a 128-112 decision to the Blazers.

Keldon Johnson led the way with 25 points and seven rebounds, but was the only Spur to hit the 20-point plateau. Doug McDermott had 14 points off the bench. Devin Vassell had 13 points, but shot 4-for-16 from the field, while adding four assists and three steals.

San Antonio is scoring just 110.2 points per game, which is 26th in the NBA. Miami is one of four teams that actually scores at a lower clip (108 ppg), ranking 29th.

The real disparity between the teams is on the defensive side, where the Spurs own the worst scoring defense in the association, surrendering 120.4 points per game.

To put that in perspective, every team they face turns into the best scoring team in the league, a point better than the Boston Celtics.

Miami has climbed their way into the East’s top eight on the strength of a defense that allows the fifth-fewest points (108.8).

Heat vs Spurs Prediction

The Heat are actually the worst bet in the NBA, going just 9-19-2 against the spread in 30 games this season. They’re 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven games.

San Antonio is still in the bottom third, sporting a 12-16 mark ATS, but they’ve struggled to bounce back, going 1-9 ATS in their last 10 following a loss.

The Spurs are dinged up as well, though big men Zach Collins (ankle) and Jakob Poeltl (knee) are probable.

Miami’s roster fluctuation is a little troubling, and they just eked out 1-possession wins over the 13th-seeded Thunder and last-place Rockets. They’ll win, but I don’t believe they cover.

Pick:

  • Spurs +7.5 (-110); 1 unit to win 0.91 units
  • NBA Betting Record: 15-12 ATS, 1-1 ML, 2-3 o/u, 0-2 parlays; -1.92 units
