The Memphis Grizzlies host the Utah Jazz for Game 3 on Saturday May 29th. Memphis is looking to bounce back from a Game 2 loss, but they are five-point underdogs.

A surprise Memphis win in Game 1 was followed by an offense-heavy Game 2. Ja Morant was at his brilliant best, scoring a franchise record 47 points, but it wasn’t enough as Utah’s three-point shooting machine rolled them to an important W.

Game 3 sees the series head to Memphis in front of what will be a hostile and excitable crowd. This young Grizzlies team has shown themselves to be absolutely fearless in big moments, and they will be flying at the Jazz on Saturday.

Injury Report

It’s a clean injury report for the Memphis Grizzlies, aside from Sean McDermott (foot) who is unlikely to be available. McDermott is seldom-used bench player and wasn’t going to see meaningful minutes in the series anyway.

After the controversy with Donovan Mitchell around Game 1, Utah is at full health ahead of Game 3. Mitchell is still on a minutes restriction, but he’ll get the start and managed 24 minutes in Game 2. Quin Snyder is sticking with a nine-man rotation. Joe Ingles, Jordan Clarkson, Georges Niang and Derrick Favors are coming off the bench.

The Ja Factor

Ja Morant hasn’t taken any time to adjust to playoff basketball. Records are tumbling every minute he plays, and Utah had no answer for him in Game 2. Much has been made of Morant’s inconsistent jumper and how it allows defenses to protect the paint against his drives.

There are legitimate concerns about spacing, much like with Russell Westbrook. What Morant did in Game 2, though, showed how he can still exploit defenses. His variety of floaters, bullet passes to shooters and explosive finishes keep defenses guessing, and it left one of the greatest rim protectors in the modern era looking clueless.

Losing when Morant scores 47 is a concern. For a team with limited firepower, they need much more from their bench. The backups went 6-for-20 in Game 2.

Interior Battle

Jonas Valanciunas’ duels with Rudy Gobert have not been the prettiest basketball of this postseason, but they are significant in this series. Valanciunas was Memphis’ best player for stretches of the regular season. His bruising brand of basketball earns crucial extra possessions for the Grizz, and he’s made major strides on the defensive end.

Foul trouble has been an issue for the former Raptor at times, however. He’s already racked up nine fouls in the series. Gobert has also done a great job against Valanciunas on the glass, outrebounding him 28-18 thus far. Gobert’s sheer size and length has been a menace for Memphis, and particularly so when Valanciunas isn’t on the floor. His vertical spacing opens up Utah’s pick-and-roll game, and has been an easy path to buckets with countless lobs in Game 2.

Valanciunas staying out of foul trouble, and finding a way to limit Gobert’s effectiveness on the offensive end, is crucial if the Grizzlies are to take this series deep.

Memphis Steal Game 3

Roared on by an optimistic home crowd, I like the price on Memphis to win this one.

Utah have been an historic three-point shooting team all year long, but they are unlikely to reproduce the 19-for-39 effort from Game 2.

With better production from the bench and another big performance from Morant, the Grizz can steal a second win of the series and pile the pressure on the top seed.

Pick: Memphis Grizzlies Moneyline (+190)
