Odds as of June 1st

Bet Smart

The Brooklyn Nets vs Boston Celtics series hasn’t gone the way the Celtics would have liked so far. Boston is down 3-1 and on the brink of elimination.

Even though their backs are against the wall, one of the only reasons they are still around is the play of Marcus Smart. He’s a do-it-all player at both ends of the floor and in this series, he’s shown off his scoring chops.

Kemba Walker is being listed as doubtful tonight after sitting out Game 4 which should open up more scoring opportunities for Smart. The Celtics are running out of guys to take shots as Jaylen Brown is still out as well. Smart only took 12 shots in Game 3, with both Walker and Brown out – but there is reason to believe that number will increase tonight.

The last time Smart played without Walker or Brown in the lineup was, coincidentally enough, against the Nets on April 23rd. He played 30 minutes and took 17 shots including 10 from three-point land. He scored 19 points that night. I would expect him to take close to 15 shots tonight given the situation and if he does, he should score at least 16 points.

  • The Pick: Smart OVER 15.5 Points (-108)

Crowder Isn’t Finished

Jae Crowder has had a rough series thus far. In the first three games, he couldn’t hit a shot to save his life, going 7-27 from the field including 2-20 from beyond the arc.

There was also Anthony Davis giving him a kick where the sun doesn’t shine in Game 3. And then there was LeBron James lighting the Internet on fire by laughing at his defense later in the same game.

Crowder responded in Game 4 by dropping 17 points on a 6-12 night from the floor. He accomplished that with nearly the same volume as the first three games, yet his point total was left relatively unchanged. Given that we should chase volume, opportunity lies with Crowder’s point total.

At this number, we don’t need Crowder to do anything spectacular. We can reasonably expect him to take around 10 shots tonight which should include 6-8 three-point attempts. At this price, Crowder is a good bet tonight to go over his point total.

  • The Pick: Crowder OVER 10.5 Points (-110)
