Monday’s NBA slate features several big-time matchups. The red-hot Warriors host the Atlanta Hawks, with Golden State standing out in the NBA betting trends. Elsewhere, the Miami Heat are facing the Nuggets in Denver as Michael Malone’s team look to keep pace with the strongest teams out west.

The title favorite Brooklyn Nets are narrow underdogs over the Chicago Bulls, who have lost consecutive games. Even with four losses in a row, the Charlotte Hornets are only two-point dogs for their game against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers are just 5-5 on the season after losses to Oklahoma City and Portland.

Warriors Getting Huge Support

Owning an NBA-best 8-1 record on the season, bettors have backed the Golden State Warriors heavily for Monday’s game. Golden State is on the second night of a back-to-back, and has just a 5-3-1 ATS record in 2021-22, but they have attracted 95% of the handle and 84% of the bets as 3.5-point favorites.

They face an Atlanta team which has slumped to 4-6 with five losses in their last six games. The Hawks are 0-4 ATS as underdogs this season, and their defense has reverted to its old habits of the pre-Nate McMillan era. They are ranked 27th in defensive rating.

The Warriors have the best defense in the league and sit fifth in offense. While these two teams are seemingly well-matched from a pure talent standpoint, Golden State is playing markedly better basketball right now.

At a 3.5-point spread, the Warriors are clearly the team to back here. The public has backed them heavily, and with good reason, including 89% of the moneyline handle.

Sharp Money on Denver

Under 30% of bets have been on Denver to cover on Monday. The sharp money is all over Michael Malone’s team, however, with 64% of the handle backing them as two-point dogs against the Miami Heat. Even an ugly 3-6 record against the spread isn’t deterring bettors.

The Nuggets only narrowly beat the Rockets in their last game, which followed consecutive losses to Memphis. Homecourt advantage has clearly played a major role in such a wave of money going on Denver. That’s despite the Nuggets owning just a 35-41-2 ATS record at home since the start of 2019-20. Playing at altitude can prove to be a challenge for some teams, and the Heat are coming off an industrious win over the Utah Jazz.

The moneyline bets are split pretty evenly for Monday’s game at Ball Arena. Denver have been unconvincing of late, and they are without Michael Porter Jr. It’s surprising to see how much backing the Nuggets are getting – Miami looks a good bet to cover this small spread, particularly with their 27-19 ATS record following a win since the start of last season.

Bettors Loving the Over in Lakers vs Hornets

Changes to officiating have resulted in fewer free throws and lower scoring totals. The books have gradually adjusted to this through the first couple of weeks of the season with point total lines dropping after the under dominated the opening games of the campaign.

There’s now a pushback happening. Comfortably over half of the handle has gone on the over in these four games, including 94% in the Hornets vs Lakers and Heat vs Nuggets. As totals have dropped, bettors have responded by backing the over, even for teams like the Nuggets, who have hit the under in eight of their nine games thus far.

With Denver missing offensive firepower, though, and Miami possessing an immense defense, it’s got to be worth considering the under at Ball Arena. Denver’s games have been low-scoring throughout this season, and the Heat have also seen five of their nine games come in under the total.

As for Charlotte, it’s almost always worth going for the over. Fast pace and subpar defense has seen the Hornets go over their total more than any team in the league this season.
