Two teams of contrasting style but each with immense talent matchup as the Miami Heat travel to Denver to face the reigning MVP, Nikola Jokic.

There’s a master versus the apprentice as Steph Curry and Trae Young go head-to-head at Chase Center. Golden State is favored for the matchup despite playing on the second night of a back-to-back.

Odds as of Nov 8 at FanDuel

Poole Hits His Threes

The Hawks are one of the worst defenses in the NBA, ranking 25th in opponent points per possession. Only four teams allow more threes. They have been fortunate that opponents are hitting under 30% of their corner threes. Atlanta is also giving up the third-worst mark in the league in opponent field goal percentage at the rim.

Jordan Poole ranks in the 81st percentile in share of his shots at the basket. He’s also getting up plenty of shots from deep, taking six or more three-point attempts in five of the last six games.

Poole has only gone over 2.5 threes twice in eight games. He’s achieved it two times in his last three, though, and there’s been a marked overall increase in his offense of late. After a slow start to the year, he’s gone over 25 points in three consecutive games. Atlanta’s defensive performances this year don’t suggest they will be able to slow him down.

We like Poole to make three or more threes on Monday night. There’s value backing his points over, too.

  • Pick: Jordan Poole over 2.5 threes (-174)

Luka Takes Down the Pels

New Orleans is 29th in defensive rating. Luka Doncic has gone over 26.5 points in two of his last three games, leading the Mavericks to three wins from their last four. Doncic is a nightmare matchup for every team in the league, but that’s particularly relevant for the Pelicans, who are starting a backcourt of Devonte’ Graham and Nickeil Alexander-Walker. They have lost three consecutive games by at least 12 points.

The Jason Kidd-led Mavericks are not a great offensive team. They rank in the bottom ten in offensive rating, and their shot profile is a bit of a throwback with few shots at the rim and a lot of above-the-break threes.

Like many stars, Doncic has seen his numbers drop off this season. He’s under 25 points per game, he’s assisting less, he’s shooting fewer free throws, and he’s started off cold from downtown. There are signs of life recently, however, and the Pelicans are the ideal opponent for Doncic to continue that trend.

Doncic has taken 21 or more shots in four consecutive games. Only four players are getting up more field goal attempts. New Orleans doesn’t have the personnel to make Doncic have an inefficient game. If he takes 20 shots again on Monday he should cruise past this points line.

  • Pick: Luka Doncic over 26.5 points (-112)
