The Washington Wizards (24-27, 12-16 away) hit the road for the tail end of a back-to-back on Saturday in the Big Apple as they take on the Brooklyn Nets (31-20, 15-8 home) in an Eastern Conference matchup.

The tip-off is scheduled for 6pm ET at the Barclays Center. Keep reading for the Wizards vs Nets prediction.

DC is coming off a loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday despite a big night from Bradley Beal. Brooklyn, meanwhile, lost to the Boston Celtics 139-96 on Wednesday in easily their worst game of the campaign. Needless to say, the Nets will be eager to bounce back here after such an embarrassing outcome.

More Kyrie Drama For Nets

While Brooklyn has struggled since Kevin Durant suffered a knee injury in early January, they’ve managed to stay afloat with a 31-20 record.

That’s good enough for third place in the East. However, Kyrie Irving rocked the boat on Friday, requesting a trade ahead of the February 9th deadline after negotiations for a new deal reportedly hit a standstill. There is no question this latest situation will affect the Nets and perhaps even KD’s future with the franchise, too.

Nevertheless, it’s back to basketball Saturday and Jacque Vaughn’s group really needs to respond. After all, they were destroyed by the Celtics mid-week in every area imaginable. Irving dropped 20 points and was just one of three scorers in double figures. Brooklyn shot a mere 23% from downtown and got outrebounded 57-32 by Boston.

On a more positive note for the Wizards matchup, the Nets are 15-8 at home. However, you simply can’t look past the Irving saga and think about how it’s going to shake up the energy in the locker room. He evidently wants out and it’s no secret they need him to keep showing out with Durant still on the shelf. We’ll see if that happens.

Wizards In Good Shape

Washington appears to have turned things around lately, winning six of their last seven, beating the likes of the Knicks, Mavericks, and Pelicans.

They’re now just three games below .500 after Friday’s defeat to Portland and currently sit in a play-in spot. There are rumors swirling that Kristaps Porzingis or Kyle Kuzma could be traded at the deadline but with the team still in contention, it feels likely they both stay.

Beal was the leading catalyst against the Blazers, scoring 34 points. Porzingis also added 32 points, eight boards, and four dimes. A brutal second half is what really hurt the Wizards here, getting outscored 73-47. They completely disappeared.

Nevertheless, it’s a quick turnaround and Washington needs to quickly recover for a couple of tough matchups against the Nets and Cavaliers.

Wizards vs Nets Prediction

Despite the losing skid, I think the Wizards take this one. There is no doubt in my mind this trade request will take a toll on Brooklyn, especially in their first game since Kyrie told the Nets he wants out. Take DC.

Pick: Wizards ML (+106)
