Alabama vs Tennessee Betting Trends

These two programs enter play going in complete opposite directions. The Crimson Tide have won four straight, and have a plus-103 point differential during that stretch. They’re undefeated so far in conference play, and lead the SEC in the majority of significant offensive categories.

The Volunteers on the other hand, have dropped three of four. Each of those losses have come against conference foes, none of whom were ranked. Granted, two of the three defeats were by a single point, including one at the buzzer, but those losses came against the 48th and 90th ranked teams per KenPom’s overall efficiency metrics.

Alabama is best known for its offensive prowess, but Tennessee earns most of its accolades on defense. They lead the SEC in points against, while ranking second in opponent field goal percentage, and third in opponent three-point efficiency.

The Volunteers have held three of its past four opponents below 68 points, but trying to contain this ‘Bama team will be a struggle. Alabama enters play averaging 83.4 points per game, and lead the nation in total rebounding. They’re the only program without a loss in league play, and feature Brandon Miller, a projected top-three pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.

Miller is one of two Crimson Tide player who averages north of 14 points per contest, and he also pulls down over 8 boards per game. The 6-9 freshman has five double-doubles on his resume so far, and three 30+ point performances.

Tennessee is more of a balanced attack, and are led by a handful of upperclassmen. Three players average in double-figures, led by senior Santiago Vescovi.

Alabama vs Tennessee Predictions

Most programs with that much experience are strong defensive teams, and the Volunteers are clearly no exception. However, don’t sleep on Alabama’s defensive prowess. The Crimson Tide may rank slightly below average in scoring defense, but that’s because a lot of their games have been blowouts, allowing for more playing time for reserves.

Alabama ranks second in the entire country in opponent effective field goal percentage, behind only Tennessee. No wonder oddsmakers aren’t bullish on this game’s prospects of shooting out.

In terms of betting trends, it’s completely one-sided in favor of the Crimson Tide. Alabama is 15-9-1 ATS this season, good for a 62.5% cover rate. That’s one of the top marks among ranked programs, and 10% higher than the Volunteers cover rate.

The Crimson Tide are 10-2 ATS in conference play, including 6-3 as visitors. They’re the leaders in the NCAA Tournament champion odds, and boast an 8-1 straight up record on the road. That includes a win in Houston, when the Cougars were ranked number one.

Tennessee meanwhile, has failed to cover in four straight. Five of their six losses have come inside their own building, and they’re just 5-7 against the spread versus conference foes this season.
