Middling Big East conference foes collide when Butler (11-8, 9-8-2 ATS) hosts the Creighton Bluejays (10-8, 8-10 ATS) on Tuesday, January 17th from the Hinkle Fieldhouse. Tipoff is set for 7:00 pm ET as both teams look to get a leg up on the other in the conference standings.

Butler will be seeking revenge after they got crushed by 22 points by the Bluejays a few days before Christmas. With that game still fresh in everybody’s mind, Creighton are once again the moneyline favorites, despite the Bluejays owning an 0-4 road record so far this campaign.

After a 6-2 start to the season, Creighton have won just four of their last 10. Additionally, the Bluejays have also covered just two times in those last 10 contests making money for anybody wagering against them on the point spread.

Butler is coming off a 79-71 victory over Villanova. Overall, conference play has not been kind to the Bulldogs so far, as they sport a 3-5 record within the Big East.

Creighton Bluejays Plagued by Inconsistency

Following three consecutive conference wins bridging the Christmas break, the Bluejays proved they just might not be ready for the conference heavyweights, falling in successive outings to UConn and Xavier. To their credit, they did bounce back with a win over 22nd ranked Providence on the weekend.

As they get set for their second meeting of the season with Butler, the Bluejays can take confidence from the fact they easily disposed of the Bulldogs the first time they met a few weeks ago.

One trend that does stand out though, is the success of the home side when these two squads go head-to-head. Believe it or not, the hosts have won 10 consecutive contests in this rivalry regardless of which team was favored.

In their previous meeting this year, Bluejays seven-footer, Ryan Kalkbrenner dominated the Bulldogs in the post, hitting eight of nine shots for 19 points.

The junior leads his team with 15.2 points per game, shooting a ridiculously efficient 74.2% from the floor. Only two players in the country have a better shooting percentage, but neither scores as much as Kalkbrenner.

Butler Bulldogs Betting Trends

One area where Butler has shown a distinct advantage is at home. When hosting, the Bulldogs have a 6-3-1 record ATS and have won eight of 10 straight up.

Like their conference opponents Tuesday evening, Butler deploys five players who average at least 10 points per game, enlisting a score-by-committee approach.

According to KenPom, they have an adjusted defensive efficiency of 97.6, which ranks 63rd amongst Division I programs. The defense allowed a season high 78 points to Creighton last time they met, so they should be motivated by that number in the hopes of stopping it from happening again.

Sophomore Simas Lukosius is coming off a career game where he dumped in 28 points on 9-13 shooting against Villanova in a 79-71 victory. The Lithuanian sharpshooter is hitting on over 40% of his shots from beyond the arc.

Creighton vs Butler Pick and Prediction

Coming off a win over a ranked opponent, Creighton is looking to get on a bit of a run, but they just haven’t gotten it done away from home.

That’s why it comes off as a bit of a surprise that they are quite strong chalk in the college basketball odds when they hook up with Butler on Tuesday.

Pairing the Bluejays poor road record this campaign with the fact that the home team seems to win every time these teams get together, our prediction is that Butler at least keeps it close. If you’re looking for some extra cash, you can pick the Bulldog’s straight up, but our prediction is to take Butler ATS in this Big East tilt.

Pick: Butler Bulldogs +6.5 (-110)
