Odds as of March 29th.

You have to go all the way back to a neutral site contest versus Virginia on Boxing Day, to find the last time the Bulldogs were single digit favorites. They were -7.5 against the Cavaliers on that day, and promptly waxed them by 23.

The Zags are a perfect 3-0 ATS thus far at the NCAA Tournament, and bettors are expecting that trend to continue against 6-seed USC in the West Region.

Gonzaga Drawing Majority of Money

Gonzaga is currently drawing 67% of the early bets as a 9-point favorite, and 65% of the money. They’ve covered closing spreads of 33, 15.5 and 12.5 points through three games, and have won 26 straight games by double-digits.

Last time out, they trounced 5-seed Creighton by 18, shooting 59.6% from the field, and dominating the rebounding, assist and turnover categories. They’re three wins away from completing the first perfect season in 45 years, and have odds twice as short as any other team still standing to win the National Championship.

Gonzaga’s offense gets all the headlines, but how about the defensive clinic they put on against the Bluejays. The Zags limited Creighton to 0.89 points per possession, and held them 21.7% from behind the arc, which equates to the Bluejays’ second worst three-point shooting performance of the season.

The defense will definitely be tested against the Trojans, who have a +64 point differential through three March Madness games. They dominated conference rival Oregon in the Sweet 16, shooting 57% from the field, and 58.8% from three.

As impressive as their three-point efficiency was on Sunday, it was even better in the previous round. USC shot 61% from beyond the arc versus Kansas, and will likely need a similar performance to keep pace with Gonzaga.

Bettors Not Buying UCLA

Meanwhile in the East Region, 11-seed UCLA will take on 1-seed Michigan as 7-point underdogs. Despite their magical run that started with a First Four game win, bettors are not buying the Bruins in this matchup.

Just 39% of the money wagered so far is on UCLA, who are trying to become the first team to win a First Four game and advance to the Final Four since VCU in 2011.

The Bruins have won three straight by double-digits, including a 10-point OT win over 2-seed Alabama in the Sweet 16. Six UCLA players scored in double-figures versus the Crimson Tide, and that kind of balance will imperative if they want to upset Michigan.

The Wolverines breezed past 4-seed Florida State in the Sweet 16, thanks to a dominating performance in close. They outscored the Seminoles 50-28 in the post, and have a massive size advantage over the Bruins.

Michigan’s twin towers Hunter Dickinson (7’1″) and Franz Wagner (6’9″) should feast on UCLA’s four guard starting lineup, and it will be interesting to see what adjustments the Bruins make.

Despite losing second leading scorer Isaiah Livers before the tournament started, Michigan is averaging 81.3 points per game, shooting at least 48% from the field in each outing.
