Florida vs Georgia is a heavyweight tilt in the college football world, and one of the most anticipated matchups on the schedule every season. It’s a much different story in college hoops.

Both programs have little hope of dancing in March, and will most likely be one and done in next month’s SEC tournament. Online sportsbooks believe the Gators are the stronger of the two teams, and opened them up as the favorite in Tuesday’s matchup per the college basketball odds.

Florida vs Georgia Betting Trends

The Gators (14-15, 7-9 SEC) took the first matchup 82-75 in Gainesville. At the time, the Bulldogs (16-13, 6-10 SEC) were 11-4, but victories have been tough to come by for both teams ever since.

Florida enters play having dropped three straight, and six of their last seven. Three of those losses have been by 16+ points, while the Gators are just 3-7 as visitors this season.

Georgia on the other hand, has been slumping just as bad. They’ve also dropped three straight, and nine of their last 12. Their last three game have resulted in a minus-103 point differential, suffering losses of 49, 32 and 22 points. The Bulldogs have six 20+ point losses on their resume over the last month, but just one has been on home court.

Georgia has played much better at home than on the road this season, posting a 13-3 record inside their own building. Granted, not too many of those wins were against A+ competition, but let’s face it, Florida is far from that either right now.

The big advantage the Gators do have over the Bulldogs is in their own end. Florida grades out as a top-32 unit per adjusted defensive efficiency, while Georgia ranks 133rd in that category.

The Bulldogs are the nation’s 173rd most efficient offense, and have failed to eclipse 65 points in four straight outings. They’re one of the country’s worst shooting teams, ranking 315th out of 363 schools. Only senior guard Terry Roberts and junior guard Kario Oquendo average in double-figures, while none of their primary rotation players shoot north of 37% from three.

Florida’s offense meanwhile, is no juggernaut, but certainly more efficient than Georgia’s. The Gators average 72 points per game, and feature five players who put up at least 9 points per outing. That group is led by senior forward Colin Castleton, however he’s out for the remainder of the season with a broken hand.

Florida vs Georgia Prediction

That knocks the Florida defense down a peg, as Castleton is the team’s primary shot blocker. It also opens up the window for a potentially higher scoring game than online sportsbooks expect, and the Gators have been no stranger to those types of outings recently.

The over is 7-0 in Florida’s last seven games. Since Castleton went down, the over has hit in three straight, exceeding the total by an average of nearly 13 points per game. The first meeting between these two programs cleared the number by 19.5 points, providing more optimism that this contest could shoot out.

Georgia has seen six of its past nine games exceed the total, and have yielded an average of 84 points per contest during that stretch. A small number of those opponents were Final Four odds contenders, but even weaker teams like Missouri, Mississippi and Vanderbilt have hung big totals on them lately.
