Gonzaga is the lone unbeaten team in the nation, so it is only fitting that the Bulldogs have opened as the favorites to win the NCAA Tournament.

Gonzaga is 26-0 and got the top overall seed in the tournament and the #1 in the West Region. The Bulldogs open play Saturday against the winner of the Norfolk State-Appalachian State first-round game.

The Zags are the first team to enter March Madness unbeaten since Kentucky in 2015. The last team to win the tournament with a perfect record was Indiana in 1976.

Getting the other regional #1 seeds are Baylor (22-2) in the South, Illinois (23-6) in the Midwest, and Michigan (20-4) in the East.

Ohio State Big Gainer

Ohio State was the team whose NCAA Tournament championship odds improved the most after the brackets were released Sunday evening. The Buckeyes opened at +1400 after being at +2200 at the start of the day.

Part of the reason Ohio State’s odds have gotten better is it had a strong Big Ten Tournament. The Buckeyes won three games in a row before losing to Illinois 91-88 in overtime Sunday in the championship game as a 6.5-point underdog.

The Buckeyes finished the regular season on a four-game losing streak.

Ohio State (21-9) is the second seed in the South Region and will open Friday against #15 Oral Roberts (16-10). Should the Buckeyes advance, they will again be favored versus either #7 Florida (14-9) or #10 Virginia Tech (15-6) on Sunday.

FSU, Tide Also Rise

Despite losing to Georgia Tech 80-75 on Saturday night as a 4.5-point favorite in the ACC Tournament title game, Florida State’s odds also got better on Selection Sunday, going from +2267 to +1600.

Seeded #4 in the East Region, Florida State (16-6) starts tournament play Saturday with a matchup against #13 UNC Greensboro (21-8). A win would advance the Seminoles to the third round against #5 Colorado (22-8) or #12 Georgetown (13-12).

Alabama’s odds also got better, going from +2033 to +1600. Earlier Sunday, the Crimson Tide edged LSU 80-79 in the SEC Tournament championship game, though it failed to cover the six-point spread.

Alabama (24-6) is the #2 seed in the East the takes on Rick Pitino and #15 Iona (12-5) on Saturday. Should the Crimson Tide advance, it would play #7 UConn (15-7) or #10 Maryland (16-13) next Monday.

Houston Drops

Though it was seeded second in the Midwest Region a few hours after winning the American Athletic Conference tournament championship game in a laugher, Houston (24-3) got dinged by the oddsmaker. The Cougars are now +2000 choices after entering the day +1867.

Houston will face #15 Cleveland State (19-7) on Friday after rolling to a 91-54 victory over Cincinnati on Sunday as a 13.5-point favorite.

Should the Cougars get past the Vikings, as expected, they would face either Clemson (16-7) or Rutgers (15-11) in a third-round game.
