Navy Betting Outlook

Navy had one of its poorest showings of the season Thursday in the loss to Colgate as it shot just 32.6% in making 19 of 58 field goal attempts.

No Midshipmen scored in double figures. Junior forward Tyler Nelson and junior guard Sean Yoder had nine points apiece.

Navy’s leading scorer, senior guard John Carter Jr., was held to two points on 0-for-4 shooting from the field. It was just the third game of the season in single digits for Carter, who is averaging 13.8 points a game.

Senior guard Greg Summers is contributing in many areas. He has averages of 10.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists.

Nelson is third on the team in scoring with an 8.3 average.

Navy fell behind Colgate 33-24 at halftime as the Midshipmen had their lowest-scoring half of the season. The Red Raiders shot 50.8% (30 of 59) and held a 42-31 lead in rebounds.

In a statistical anomaly, Navy made 8 of 15 (53.3%) from three-point range while Colgate was 3 for 20 (15.0%) beyond the arc. The Red Raiders were a smoking 27 of 39 (69.2%) on two-point field goal attempts while the Midshipmen were 11 of 43 (25.6%).

It was a disappointing showing on Rubber Ducky Day.

Perhaps getting back on the road will help Navy. The Midshipmen are a profitable 6-2 against the spread away from home and 10-5 overall.

Boston University Betting Outlook

Senior guard Javante McCoy shined again for Boston University on Thursday, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Terriers from losing at Army.

McCoy turned in a 23-point, five-rebound, four-assist effort. It marked his fifth 20-point game of the season and second in a row.

McCoy is averaging a team-high 17.5 points.

Senior wing Walter Whyte scored in double digits for the ninth time in the 10 games he has played this season, finishing with 14 points. He is averaging 13.0 points and 6.6 rebounds.

Senior forward Suhkmail Mathon pulled down 11 rebounds and added nine points as he just missed a double-double. He is averaging nearly a double-double at 14.1 points and 9.4 rebounds.

Boston University shot just 39.3%, making 24 of 61 field goal attempts. The Terriers did hold to Army to 3 of 13 (23.1%) on three-point tries.

The Terriers are just 1-5 ATS at home and 7-8-2 overall.

Navy vs Boston University Prediction

The series has been evenly contested in recent seasons with the teams splitting the last 12 games.

Navy beat Boston University 83-71 at home on Jan. 4 behind 23 points and seven rebounds from Carter. Nelson added 20 points for the winners and junior forward Daniel Deaver had 18 points and nine rebounds off the bench.

Mathon led five Terriers in double-figure scoring with 18 points and eight rebounds.

While Navy struggled mightily against Colgate, the Midshipmen are legitimate contenders in the Patriot League and should bounce back in this one.

  • The Pick: Navy -1.5 (-110)
