Alabama SEC Tournament Favorite

Controversial freshman forward Brandon Miller leads Alabama, averaging 19.6 points and 8.0 rebounds a game. He is first in the SEC in scoring, fifth in rebounding and expected to be a lottery pick in this year’s NBA Draft.

The Crimson Tide are strong on both ends of the floor. They are seventh in the nation in scoring (82.8), third in field goal percentage defense (37.7%) and third in three-point defense (28.4%).

Junior guard Mark Sears has a 13.3 scoring average and freshman forward Noah Clowney is scoring 10.0 points and pulling down 8.2 rebounds a game. He is fourth in the conference in boards.

Alabama ended the regular season by losing 67-61 at Texas A&M on Saturday. The Crimson Tide had won their previous four games.

Tennessee, Kentucky SEC Tournament Contenders

The oddsmakers have installed Tennessee as the second choice despite the Volunteers losing three of their last five games. They also lost sophomore guard Zakai Ziegler, who is averaging 10.7 points and 5.4 assists a game, to a season-ending knee injury on Feb. 28.

Sticky defense is Tennessee’s strength. The Volunteers lead the nation in field goal percentage allowed (36.4%) and three-point defense (25.5%) and rank third in points allowed (57.3).

Senior guard Santiago Vescovi has averages of 12.7 points, 4.6 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.9 steals a game. Senior forward Olivier Nkamhoua is scoring 10.6 and grabbing 5.0 rebounds a game.

Kentucky is hot with five wins in its last six games.

Senior forward Oscar Tshiebwe won’t repeat as the national player of the year but is averaging 16.4 points and 13.1 rebounds a game. He is first in the SEC in rebounding, second with a 56.4 field goal percentage and fourth in scoring.

Senior guard Antonio Reeves has a 14.2 scoring average and junior forward Jacob Toppin in averaging 12.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists. At 5.6 assists a game, senior guard Sahvir Wheeler tops the conference in that category.

Arkansas SEC Tournament Darkhorse

Arkansas ended a disappointing regular season with three straight losses. Yet the Razorbacks are as talented as any team in the SEC, led by junior guard Ricky Council IV, who is third in the conference in scoring with a 16.5 average, and freshman guard Nick Smith Jr. (13.8 ppg).

Arkansas is certainly an intriguing play at +1050.

SEC Tournament Prediction

Remember when Kentucky was supposedly a bubble team and people were wondering if coach John Calipari’s time in Lexington was up? Well, don’t look now but the Wildcats have bounced back with a vengeance and are poised to win the SEC Tournament.

Pick: Kentucky (+450)
