Senior forward Joirdan Karl Nicholas is netting 11.1 PPG along with a team-high eight steals. Senior forward Brison Gresham leads the Tigers in rebounding (7.5 RPG) and blocked shots (seven), while junior guard PJ Henry paces the Tigers in assists (15) and 3-pointers made (eight).

One of the most experienced teams in the NCAA, Texas Southern has 10 seniors and 2 juniors. The Tigers rate 10th in the nation in offensive rebounding percentage (14.7). However, they’re shooting a dismal 25.24% from beyond the arc. That rates 346th out of 350 NCAA Division I schools.

The Tigers won the SWAC Tournament and earned an NCAA Tournament berth in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2021.

Florida Gators Statistical Leaders

Senior forward Colin Castleton  is averaging a double-double with 14.7 points and 10.1 rebounds per game this season. He’s also averaging three blocks per game.  Castleton is one point shy of 500 for his career.

Senior guard Phlandrous Fleming Jr is showing 11.9 PPG in his stats line. Senior guard Tyree Appleby has made 40 of his last 41 free throw attempts dating back to last season. He hit his final 16 tries of last season. So far this season he has two streaks of 12 made, split up by his lone miss during this stretch.

Florida ranks second in the SEC’s top three in 3-point percentage defense (.255) and blocked shots (6.0). The Gators are third in the conference in scoring defense (58.3 PPG).

Florida’s victory earlier this season over Ohio State marked the 11th time under head coach Mike White that the Gators have come back from a double-digit point deficit to forge a victory.

Tigers vs Gators Prediction

The Gators are allowing on 58.3 points per game this season. That rates 26th-best among NCAA Division I schools. The Gators have already held two opponents to 45 points. It’s the first time since the 2014-15 season that the Gators have held more than one opponent to 45 points or less in the same season.

Meanwhile, Texas Southern in producing just 61 PPG. Those digits are leaving the Tigers ranked 247th in the nation. The Tigers are allowing 73.7 PPG. Florida is scoring 77.5 PPG over its last four home games while surrendering just 51.5 PPG.

This is the second-ever meeting between the Gators and Tigers. Florida beat Texas Southern 75-50 on December 12, 2014. That contest was also held in Gainesville, Florida. That victory also marked the last game against a SWAC school for the Gators. Florida is 26-0 all-time against teams from the SWAC.

The Tigers have lost five in a row against ranked teams. That includes an 81-64 loss this season to the #12 BYU Cougars.

They’re playing a relentless non-conference schedule, all on the road against top schools. Texas Southern is better than the record would indicate. Take the Tigers and the points.

Pick: Texas Southern Tigers +21.5 (-114)
