  • The #17 Texas Longhorns are 10.5-point favorites over the Stanford Cardinal in an NCAA men’s basketball game slated for Sunday, December 19
  • This game is part of the Pac-12 Coast to Coast Challenge and is being played at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas
  • Stanford is 0-3 straight up when playing away from home so far this season

Unlike a lot of college kids, neither of the 17th-ranked Texas Longhorns or Stanford Cardinal are gaining much enjoyment this NCAA basketball season from road trips.

Texas is 0-2 straight up away from home this season. Stanford is 0-3 SU when gone from the comforts of home.

Both will be dealing with that separation anxiety from their comfort zone on Sunday when they meet in the Pac-12 Coast to Coast Challenge. The game is being played at a neutral site, T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Oddsmakers believe that it will be the Longhorns who prove capable of making the adjustment. Texas is being set as the solid 10.5-point chalk. The Longhorns are 7-0 straight up as a favorite this season.

Stanford Cardinal Betting Trends

The Cardinal have won two straight and three of four games. However, all three victories were on their home court. The one loss came at Colorado.

Freshman forward Harrison Ingram is leading the team with per game averages of 12.6 points and 6.9 rebounds. Senior forward Jaiden Deliare is matching Ingram with 12.6 ppg. Sophomore guard Michael O’Connell’s 3.6 assists per game are pacing the Cardinal.

Displaying depth and balance, Stanford has seen 11 different players hit for double digits in points in game this season. No other Pac-12 school can make that boast.

The Cardinal have outrebounded all nine opponents this season. They are posting a plus-9.4 rebound margin. That rates 18th in the nation. As well,  Stanford ranks 14th nationally with a 37.3% offensive rebound percentage.

Texas Longhorns Betting Trends

Like Stanford, Texas coach Chris Beard is reliant upon the depth of his squad. Six Longhorns are averaging between 8.0 and 13.1 ppg.

There are 10 Texas players who are averaging at least 12.3 minutes per contest. Six different players have led the Longhorns in scoring during their first nine games this season.

Senior forward Timmy Allen is the top shooter for Texas. He’s averaging 13.1 ppg. Junior forward Tre Mitchell (11.6 ppg) is also in double digits.

Allen is also the top rebounder for the Longhorns. He’s pulling down 6.4 boards per game. Mitchell has a team-high eight blocked shots. Senior guard Marcus Carr tops the Longhorns with 32 assists. Senior guard Andrew Jones leads the way with 16 steals.

Longhorns vs Cardinal Prediction

The Cardinal are 12-3 SU all-time in December under head coach Jerod Haase. They’re 8-1 SU in their last nine games played in the 12th month of the year. While 6-0 at home this season, Stanford is 0-2-1 ATS away from home.

Stanford won neutral-site games last season over a pair of ranked opponents, Alabama and UCLA. On December 23, 2014, the Cardinal beat a ranked Texas team 74-71. Overall, they are 4-6 SU in their last 10 games when facing ranked opponents. The Longhorns maintain a 3-2 edge in the all-time series with Stanford.

Defense is winning for Texas. In their last game, the Longhorns held Arkansas-Pine Bluff to 31 points. That was tied for the fewest points allowed by Texas in a game since the 1949-50 season. UT leads the Big 12 in scoring defense, allowing just 53.6 ppg. Texas has held five of its first nine opponents below 50 points.

Texas leads the Big 12 in fewest turnovers committed. The Longhorns have averaged just 10.6 turnovers per game through their first nine contests. They’ve also posted an impressive 1.41 assist-to-turnover ratio (134 assists, 95 turnovers) as a team.

Pick: Texas Longhorns +10.5 (-110).
