Xavier Betting Trends

Senior guard Souley Boum, Xavier’s leading scorer, might not be at 100% for this matchup. He injured his left ankle in the first half of the loss to Butler and was noticeably limping in the second half.

A transfer from UTEP, Boum is averaging 16.1 points, 4.9 assists and 3.9 rebounds a game. He is fourth in the conference in assists.

Boum struggled against Butler. He made just 4 of 14 shots from the floor while finishing with 12 points and three assists.

Junior guard Colby Jones led Xavier with 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists. He has been stuffing the stat sheet with season averages of 15.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.5 steals.

Senior forward Jack Nunge had 14 points and eight rebounds. He is scoring 14.7 points, grabbing 7.9 rebounds and making 2.0 steals a game. Nunge is fifth in the Big East in boards.

Senior guard Adam Kunkel contributed 13 points and three assists. For the season, his averages are 10.1 and 3.0.

Xavier outrebounded Butler 34-23 but committed 18 turnovers and allowed the Bulldogs to shoot 54.3% (25 of 46). Butler scored the winning basket when the Musketeers were called for goaltending with 2.6 seconds left on Eric Hunter Jr.’s dunk attempt.

Xavier is second in the nation in three-point percentage (40.1), fourth in overall field goal percentage (50.0) and ninth in scoring (83.2). However, the Musketeers are also 330th in scoring defense (75.7) and 333rd in three-point defense (36.9).

Senior forward Zach Freemantle, who is averaging 15.2 points and 8.1 rebounds, is expected to miss his fourth consecutive game with a left foot injury.

Marquette Betting Trends

Offensive balance has been a key for Marquette all season and was again Saturday in the win at Georgetown.

Sophomore forward Oso Ighodaro, sophomore guard Tyler Kolek and sophomore guard Kam Jones shared team-high scoring honors with 14 points apiece. Ighodaro also had seven rebounds and five assists while Kolek distributed eight assists and Jones made 4 of 9 three-point attempts.

Sophomore forward Olivier Maxence-Prosper did a bit of everything with 11 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Freshman guard Chase Ross had 10 points and four assists off the bench.

Jones had a team-leading 15.2 scoring average. Maxence-Prosper is scoring 13.0 points a game.

Ighodaro’s 65.7 field goal percentage is second in the Big East. He also has averages of 11.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.7 blocks.

Kolek is averaging a conference-leading 7.7 assists along with 11.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals.

Marquette is fifth in Division I in field goal shooting (49.9%) and 19th in scoring (81.2). Against Georgetown, the Golden Eagles shot 52.2% (35 of 67) overall and 15 of 31 (48.4%) from beyond the arc as different players made three-pointers.

Marquette also forced 16 turnovers.

Xavier vs Marquette Prediction

The longtime rivals have split their last four games with Xavier winning 80-76 on Jan. 15 at home. Nunge had a triple-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Musketeers while Kolek had 25 points and seven assists for Marquette.

This game between the Big East’s top two teams should be a shootout, making underdog Xavier an enticing play.

Pick: Xavier +5.5 (-110)

Season record: 29-24 (+2.6 units) ATS, 3-7 (-3.5 units) ML
