Bulldogs Are New Kings

Georgia (6-0) has overtaken Alabama as the favorite in the CFP National Championship odds following Week 6 of the season. The Bulldogs beat Auburn 34-10, while Alabama suffered a shocking 41-38 upset loss to Texas A&M. Nick Saban’s team entered the game at College Station as heavy 18-point favorites.

UGA was still the second-favorite in the National Championship odds after beating Auburn, but Alabama losing to an unranked Aggies team propelled the Bulldogs into the top spot. The Crimson Tide hadn’t lost a game since 2019 and had won 100 straight games against unranked opponents.

Georgia truly looks like the best team in the country through six games, beating their opponents by an average margin of 34 points. Alabama almost suffered an upset loss to Florida in Week 3 before getting exposed by Texas A&M in Week 6. The Aggies only had two wins entering the game and were without starting QB Hayes King.

Hawkeyes Make Huge Leap

Iowa saw its National Title odds improve from +3500 to +2000 after beating Penn State in Week 6 at Kinnick Stadium. The Hawkeyes took advantage of an early injury to PSU QB Sean Clifford, rallying from a 17-3 deficit to beat the Nittany Lions 23-20. Iowa has won 12 straight games and are officially in the College Football Playoff conversation.

The Hawkeyes defense continues to be trendmous, adding four more interceptions to their nation-leading 16 total on the season. Iowa controls its own destiny when it comes to making the CFP. The Hawkeyes play in the Big Ten West, where they avoid Michigan and Ohio State. Kirk Ferentz’s team currently doesn’t have a ranked opponent remaining on their schedule.

Penn State, meanwhile, faded from +2500 to +6000 after suffering their first loss in 10 games. The Nittany Lions technically aren’t out of the playoff picture with only one loss, but they’re staring down a gauntlet with upcoming games against Ohio State, Michigan and Michigan State.

Buckeyes, Wolverines Also Improve

Ohio State and Michigan both saw improvement in their National Championship odds following Week 6. The Buckeyes had the more impressive victory, curb-stomping Maryland 66-17 as three-touchdown favorites. OSU improved from +1000 to +800 after CJ Stroud and the Buckeyes’ receivers lit up the Terrapins.

Michigan went from +3000 to +2500 after edging out Nebraska 32-29. The Wolverines got a late 39-yard field goal from Jake Moody to avoid the upset in Lincoln. Jim Harbaugh’s team is 6-0 to start the season for the first time since 2016. Their schedule doesn’t get any easier with upcoming games against Michigan State, Penn State and Ohio State.

Oklahoma also saw minor improvement in their National Championship odds after winning a wild Red River game against Texas. Spencer Rattler was benched in the first half and freshman Caleb Williams led the team to a huge comeback win. OU only has one ranked opponent left on their schedule and could get a jolt offensively with Williams now under center.
