Georgia running back Daijun Edwards (30) celebrates after scoring a touchdown during the first half of a NCAA college football game against UAB in Athens, Ga., on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023.
  • The Georgia Bulldogs are 14-point road favorites at the Auburn Tigers in the college football game between these SEC rivals on Saturday, September 30
  • Georgia is 6-0 straight up and against the spread in the last six games against Auburn
  • The Bulldogs are also 11-0 SU in their last 11 road games

Oddsmakers appear to be counting on history repeating itself as the #1 Georgia Bulldogs (4-0, 0-3-1 ATS) visit the Auburn Tigers (3-1, 1-3 ATS) in a key SEC showdown on Saturday.

Georgia is set at 14.5-road favorites at Auburn. In 2021, the last time the Bulldogs were facing the Tigers on the road, they were also the 14.5-point away chalk. Georgia covered in a 34-10 victory.

While winning is still a Georgia thing this season, covering isn’t going so well. The Bulldogs are 0-3-1 against the spread. Georgia’s visit to Auburn is the school’s first road game of the 2023 college football campaign.

Let’s dig more deeply into the Georgia vs Auburn odds and offer you our prediction for this Week 5 college football game.

The Bulldogs are 4-2 ATS in their last six visits to Auburn. Moneyline splits are showing 92% of handle and 97% of bets backing the Bulldogs. Georgia is 10-0 SU in the past 10 games.

The only area where there is indecision is on the total of 47 points. There’s 68% of handle going to the over, while 59% of bets are supporting the over. Five of the last six Auburn vs Georgia games have gone under.

Top-ranked Georgia is the betting chalk in the National Championship odds at +220. Auburn is given a line of +25000 in this betting market.

Key Injuries Not Slowing Bulldogs

A testament to Georgia’s depth is that the Bulldogs remain unbeaten and atop the top-25 rankings despite the absence of some key personnel on both sides of the ball. Offensively, running backs Kendall Milton (MCL sprain) and Roderick Robinson (left ankle sprain) are ailing. That’s left the ball in the hands of Daijun Edwards, who’s rushed for a team-leading 184 yards, even though he’s only played the past two games.

Star receiver Ladd McConkey (back) has yet to play this season. He caught 56 passes last season for 762 yards and seven touchdowns. Picking up the slack, All-American TE Brock Bowers leads the team with 22 catches for 256 yards and two TDs.

Defensively, safety Javon Bullard (ankle) has missed the past two games. Georgia coach Kirby Smart is alternating Dan Jackson and David Daniel-Sisavanh at safety in Bullard’s spot.

Bullard, McConkey and Milton are all likely to be game-time decisions for Saturday.

Tigers Expected To Go Back To Thorne

In last week’s 27-10 loss to Texas A&M, the Auburn offense failed to find the end zone. QB1 Payton Thorne was just 6-of-12 for 44 yards through the air. He was sacked five times before being benched in the third quarter. Robby Ashford, Thorne’s replacement, completed one pass for 4 yards.

Tigers coach Hugh Freeze says he’ll be going back to Thorne to start against Georgia. Meanwhile, on defense, Auburn DBs Keionte Scott, Donovan Kaufman JD Rhym, Zion Puckett and Marquise Gilbert are all battling injuries.

Georgia vs Auburn Prediction

Georgia is the #17 defense in the nation and the #1 scoring defense in the SEC. Auburn, meanwhile, is the SEC’s worst passing offense and the second-poorest run defense in the conference.

Based on the slow start by the Bulldogs this season, there’s a sense that Auburn could hang with Georgia and perhaps cover. But the Tigers will only be hanging themselves if they take 10 penalties again as they did in last week’s loss to Texas A&M.

Georgia vs Auburn Pick: Georgia -14 (-115)
