In the midst of a perfect season, the Michigan Wolverines (8-0, 5-0 Big Ten) hit the road for a conference tilt with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (4-4. 1-4 Big Ten).

This is expected to be a lopsided affair, with the 5th-ranked Wolverines listed as 26.5-point road favorites.

The Scarlet Knights hung tough with Michigan last season, holding them to their lowest scoring output of the year and second-lowest margin of victory in a 20-13 loss.

It all gets underway Saturday (November 5) at 7:30pm ET from SHI Stadium in New Jersey. The game can be seen live on the Big Ten Network.

Wolverines’ Betting Outlook

It was business as usual for Michigan last time out in a 29-7 thumping of the Michigan State Spartans — save for a postgame melee, with video emerging online that shows at least three Spartans pushing, punching and kicking Michigan defensive back Ja’Den McBurrow.

The win was the Wolverines’ fourth straight by double digits. The running game punished the Spartans, with Blake Corum leading the way with 177 yards on 33 carries and a touchdown. As a team, Michigan rushed 52 times for 276 yards, a healthy 5.4 yard per carry average.

On the year, Michigan ranks as the 5th-best running attack in the nation, churning out 246 yards per game, on a healthy 5.7 yard per carry average, which has them in eighth.

Defensively, the Wolverines closed the door on the Spartan run attack, holding them to 37 yards on 23 carries. They sacked quarterback Payton Thorne twice and added an interception.

Michigan is one of just four teams in college football that rank in the top 10 in both scoring offense (eighth) and scoring defense (third).

Scarlet Knights’ Betting Outlook

It was an ugly one for Rutgers in Week 9, as they were clubbed by the Minnesota Golden Gophers 31-0. They enter this one having lost four of their last five games.

Their usual stout run defense — 19th in the nation, allowing just 108 yards per game — was gashed by Mohamed Ibrahim, who ran for 159 yards and three touchdowns.

Gavin Wimsatt got the start at QB and struggled, throwing 6-for-17 for 68 yards and an interception. He didn’t get much help from his run game, either, as they were bottled up for 48 yards on 21 carries.

Rutgers’ QB rotation of Evan Simon, Noah Vedral and Wimsatt has been ineffective. No team has a worse passing offense in the conference, as they are putting up just 154.8 yards per game.

Offense has been a problem for the Scarlet Knights this season, as they’re putting up just 20.1 points per game. That puts them at a lowly 12th in the Big Ten, looking down at only Northwestern and Iowa.

Michigan vs Rutgers Pick

Michigan has dominated this matchup, having reeled off seven straight wins. Even with a tough defense, the Scarlet Knights probably won’t be able to put up enough points to keep up with the Wolverines.

Michigan is averaging 41 points per game on the year, which ranks eighth in the nation — they’re just one of ten teams to crack the 40-point plateau.

Rutgers is 0-7-1 against the spread this season facing a team with a winning record, but Michigan is also 1-4 ATS in their last five head-to-head meetings. Rutgers has played Michigan tough recently, making that massive point spread not that appealing.

Instead, have a look at the total of 45. The under is 4-1 in Michigan’s last five games, while the under has hit seven of nine Rutgers games following a loss.

The Pick:

  • UNDER 45 points (-108); 1 unit to win 0.93 units
  • Week 9 NCAAF Record: 0-1: Overall: 4-5 ATS, 1-0 ML, 1-1 o/u; -0.45 units
