Showdown in Iowa City

Penn State tuned up for the big game with Iowa by blanking Indiana 24-0 at home on Saturday night. Sean Clifford threw for 178 yards and three touchdowns.

Jahan Dotson caught a pair of touchdown passes and Brenton Strange added one. Penn State forced eight punts, two turnovers and blocked a field goal for their ninth straight win dating to last season.

Jordan Stout added a 50-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for the Nittany Lions.

Iowa blasted previously unbeaten Maryland 51-7 on Friday night on the road as Spencer Petras threw for three touchdowns and ran for two while the Hawkeyes defense forced seven turnovers.

Iowa had five interceptions of Taulia Tagovailoa. He had been picked off only once in the first four games of the season.

That ball-hawking — pun intended — defense of the Hawkeyes figures to make the difference in this one and why Iowa looks like a good bet at a good price.

Auburn Faces Impenetrable Georgia

Auburn will be the latest team to try to slow down Georgia when the Bulldogs visit Jordan-Hare Stadium. Georgia is a 15-point favorite.

Georgia rolled to 37-0 win over then-#8 Arkansas on Saturday as Zamir White ran for two touchdowns and recovered a blocked punt for another score. The Bulldogs also posted their second shutout in a row.

Georgia took a 21-0 lead despite being without quarterback JT Daniels, who sat out with a strained right lat. Stetson Bennett filled in and passed for just 72 yards as the Bulldogs relied on their running game and defense to beat Arkansas (4-1, 1-1).

Arkansas managed just 10 first downs and 156 total yards.

Auburn won in Baton Rogue for the first time since 1999 when it rallied to edge LSU 24-19 on Saturday.

Bo Nix passed for a touchdown and ran for a score and Jarquez Hunter scored on a 1-yard run with 3:11 to give Auburn its first lead. Nix finished 23 of 44 for 255 yards without a turnover and rushed for 74 yards.

Auburn secured the win when Bydarrius Knighten intercepted Max Johnson’s pass on fourth down at the Auburn 39 with 1:09 left.

Nix will have hard a harder time worker his magic against Georgia’s defense. The Bulldogs should cover the big number on the road.

Bearcats Undervalued

Cincinnati is a 28.5-point home favorite over Temple on Friday night. While that is a big number, look for the line to go higher.

The public is likely to jump on Cincinnati after the Bearcats posted what was arguable the biggest win in program history Saturday when they won at Notre Dame. While Temple is 3-2, its two losses have been to Power Five schools Rutgers and Boston College by a combined 72 points.
