Purdue Betting Outlook

Quarterback Aidan O’Connell is the star of the show for Purdue, leading an offense that is 37th in the nation in total yards (446.6) and 41st in scoring (34.0).

However, it was Devin Mockobee who played a major role in the win over Nebraska. He rushed a career-high 178 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries in helping Purdue holding a whopping 101-52 advantage in plays from scrimmage.

Mockobee raised his season yardage total to 453 in 80 attempts. He also has five TDs on the ground.

O’Connell has thrown for 1,950 yards, second in the Big Ten to the 2,001 of Maryland’s Taulia Tagovailoa. O’Connell has completed 66.2% of his 268 passes with 14 touchdowns and five interceptions.

Against Nebraska, O’Connell passed for 391 and four touchdowns. He was 35 of 52 and intercepted once.

Wide receiver Charlie Jones is having an outstanding season with 62 receptions for 735 yards and nine touchdowns. He is second in the nation in TD catches to Tennessee’s Jalin Hyatt (10) and second in the Big Ten in receiving yards to Nebraska’s Trey Palmer (781).

Last week, Jones caught 12 balls for 132 yards and two TDs. It was his fourth 100-yard receiving game of the season.

While Purdue’s defense gave 37 points to Nebraska, the Boilermakers did have a season-high four sacks.

Wisconsin Betting Outlook

Wisconsin has had a disappointing season that has included the firing of coach Paul Chryst and the promotion of Jim Leonhard from defensive coordinator to head coach.

However, as usual, the Badgers are tough defensively and should provide a challenge to O’Connell and the Purdue offense. Wisconsin is 23rd in the nation in total yards allowed (330.3) and 35th in scoring defense (21.6).

The offense has been inconsistent, though, as evidenced again last week when Wisconsin had just 283 yards in the loss to Michigan State.

The Badgers do have two significant weapons in quarterback Graham Mertz and running back Braelon Allen.

Mertz has 15 touchdown passes to rank second in the conference to Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud (24). Mertz also has a 63.1% completion rate on 168 attempts for 1,427 yards while being picked off six times.

Mertz had two TD passes last week. However, he was just 14-of-25 passing for 131 yards with one interception.

Wisconsin’s top receiver is Chimere Dike, who has 29 catches for 487 yards and five touchdowns.

Allen rushed for 123 yards and two scores on 29 carries against Michigan State but also lost a fumble.

Allen’s 757 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on the ground both rank third in the Big Ten. He has 133 carries.

Purdue vs Wisconsin Prediction

Wisconsin has won 15 straight games in the series, including 30-13 at Purdue last season. Allen rushed for 140 of the Badgers’ 297 yards on the ground and two touchdowns while Mertz attempted just eight passes.

O’Connell was 24 of 32 for 200 yards and a touchdown but was picked off three times. The Boilermakers had minus-13 yards rushing.

Purdue has been a surprise this season but certainly doesn’t seem like a fluke. Look for the Boilermakers to end their losing ways against Wisconsin and win five games in a row for the first time since 2007.

Pick: Purdue ML (+115)
