The 2021 College Football season is heading into its sixth week, and there are some great matchups on the docket for Week 6. The loaded slate on Saturday, October 9th features several games with betting value.

Nick Saban’s Alabama and Jimbo Fisher’s Texas A&M clash in an SEC rivalry matchup, while Texas and Oklahoma faceoff in Big 12 action at the Cotton Bowl. Over in the Big Ten, Michigan State aims to stay unbeaten at Rutgers.

Here are betting odds and three ATS picks to consider for Week 6.

Alabama vs Texas A&M Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total

Texas A&M Aggies +17.5  (-115) +600 U 51.5 (-110)

Pick #1: Tide Swallow Up Aggies

Texas A&M will look to beat No. 1 Alabama for the first time in 10 years when they welcome the Crimson Tide to College Station in Week 6. Nick Saban’s team has dominated this rivalry of late, winning the past five meetings by an average margin of 19 points. The 2021 matchup could be one of the more lopsided battles to date.

Alabama is 5-0 on the season after a commanding 42-21 win over Ole Miss last weekend. The Tide held Lane Kiffin’s high-powered offense to under 300 yards of total offense, including just 78 rushing yards. Alabama should have no trouble shutting down a struggling Aggies’ offense that has averaged just 270 yards of offense the past two weeks.

Texas A&M hasn’t been able to get into a rhythm offensively after losing starting QB Haynes King to injury. Zach Calzada is the new guy under center and he’s struggled with inconsistency. The sophomore has completed 55.6 percent of his passes for four TDs and four interceptions. Calzada doesn’t perform well when facing pressure, which is going to be an issue against this fierce Alabama pass rush.

The Tide are averaging close to 50 points per game and  should cover the spread for the third straight year in this rivalry. The first-half spread (-10.5) is also a good option here, but Alabama isn’t going to let their foot off the gas pedal. Saban expressed disappoint with his team’s second-half performance vs Ole Miss, which means they should play a more complete sixty minutes in Week 6 on Saturday.

  • Pick: Alabama -17.5 (-105)

Oklahoma vs Texas Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Oklahoma Sooners -3.5 (-105) -160 O 63.5 (-110)
Texas Longhorns +3.5  (-115) +140 U 63.5 (-110)

Pick #2: Longhorns Run Over Sooners

It’s the latest chapter of the Red River Rivalry when Oklahoma and Texas faceoff at the Cotton Bowl in Week 6. The Longhorns have looked impressive in consecutive wins over Rice, Texas Tech and TCU, while the Sooners have struggled in recent victories over WVU and Kansas State. Since 2014, each meeting between these two teams in Dallas has been decided by one possession.

Texas running back Bijan Robinson is reason to consider betting the Longhorns to at least cover the spread. The sophomore sensation has exploded for 652 rushing yards and seven TDs on 105 carries this season. He racked up over 200 yards against TCU and has the chance for his Heisman moment in Week 6 against the Sooners.

Oklahoma may be undefeated through five games, but they haven’t been playing like one of the top teams in the country. Oklahoma is averaging only 155 rushing yards per game and have yet to establish a dominant ground game. Their offensive line isn’t what it’s been in the past and could get worked by a Texas defensive line that is becoming quite effective under new DC Pete Kwiatkowski.

Aside from Robinson, the Longhorns have another key weapon in QB Casey Thompson, who can help UT control the clock. The Longhorns are averaging 558 yards of offense per game since the dual-threat pivot took over for Hudson Card. Texas is 4-1 ATS this season, while Oklahoma has only covered once. Back the team playing the better football right now and boasting the top-tier running back.

  • Pick: Texas +3.5 (-110)

Michigan State vs Rutgers Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Michigan State Spartans -5 (-110) -200 O 50 (-110)
Rutgers Scarlet Knights +5  (-110) +170 U 50 (-110)

Pick #3: Spartans Beat Up Knights

Michigan State will look to stay unbeaten when they travel to Rutgers in Week 6. Mel Tucker’s team has been one of college football’s surprise teams this season, earning key wins over Northwestern, Miami and Nebraska. They should keep rolling against a 3-2 Rutgers team that has lost back-to-back games vs Ohio State and Michigan.

Michigan State boasts one of the nation’s best running backs in Kenneth Walker III, who has rushed for 680 yards and eight TDs on 100 carries. He should have a big day against a Rutgers rush defense that just got gashed for over 200 yards by the Buckeyes. The Wake Forest transfer will be aided by QB Peyton Throne, who has thrown for over 1,000 yards with only one pick.

Michigan’s State offense should have no problems running up the field on Rutgers, but their defense is reason to bet them against the spread. The Spartans are allowing  just 20 points per game and have dynamic playmakers in the defensive backfield, including senior Jacub Panasiuk. This group sacked Nebraska QB Adrian Martinez seven times last weekend and will make life miserable for Rutgers’ pivot Noah Vedral.

This is a revenge spot for Michigan State after losing to Rutgers 38-27 at Spartan Stadium last season. Turnovers cost the Spartans the game, which is something they’ve cleaned up this season. Mel Tucker’s team has only turned the ball over three times and are facing a Rutgers’ team that hasn’t generated a turnover in three straight games. The Spartans are surging and have the weapons to win this one by at least one TD.

  • Pick: Michigan State -5 (-110)
