The San Francisco 49ers are starting to look like the team football people thought they’d be at the start of the season. Meanwhile, with each passing week, the Tennessee Titans look less and less like the team everyone thought they were a month ago.

San Francisco is 5-1 over the past six games to improve to 8-6. Tennessee still is leading the AFC South despite slumping to 9-5 following an 8-2 start.

As they meet in Week 16 of the NFL’s TNF showcase game, it’s the visiting 49ers who are 3.5-point away favorites. Tennessee is 2-0 against the spread this season as a home underdog.

49ers vs Titans Line Movement

There appears to be some indecisiveness in the minds of public bettors in terms of the NFL betting trends on this game. When it comes to the spread, 57% of handle and 58% of bets are backing the 49ers. That’s caused the line to lengthen from San Francisco -3 to 49ers -3.5.

When it comes to the moneyline, 58% of bets are with San Fran, while 52% of the handle is going with the Titans. Still, the line on the 49ers moved from -172 to -186.

As far as the total is concerned, 57% of the handle and 54% of bets are supporting the Over. The total has decreased from 44.5 to 44 points.

Changing Fortunes

Remember the Titans who were looking like the best team in the AFC? In a five-week span earlier this season, Tennessee beat Buffalo, Kansas City, Indianapolis, the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans. The Titans were 8-2.

Today, the Titans are 9-5 and losers of three of four, including recent setbacks to Houston and Pittsburgh.

Two years removed from a Super Bowl appearance and coming back from an injury-plagued 2020 campaign, a bounceback season was envisioned for the 49ers. Then they opened 2021 with a 3-5 record as they reached the halfway point of the year.

Since then, San Franciso is 5-1, laying claim to the second NFL Wild Card playoff position. The Niners have posted wins over the Rams and Bengals during this successful stretch.

49ers vs Titans Injury Report

There could be big developments on both squads in terms of injuries for this game. For Tennessee, wide receivers Julio Jones (questionable -hamstring) and AJ Brown (IR-chest) are both game-time decisions. Left tackle Taylor Lewan (back) and left inside linebacker David Long Jr (hamstring) are listed as questionable.

For the 49ers, running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) is also being classified a game-time decision. On defense, weakside linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair (elbow), strongside linebacker Dre Greenlaw (groin) and strong safety Jaquiski Tartt (ankle) are questionable.

49ers vs Titans Betting Trends

San Francisco has won two straight from the Titans and overall, three of five games since the Titans relocated to Tennessee.

The Niners are 5-1 against the spread over the past six games. Tennessee is  1-4 ATS over the past five games.

The Titans are 7-1-1 ATS in the last nine games against San Francisco. However, Tennessee is 1-4 straight up in its last five home games against the 49ers.

49ers vs Titans Prediction

The Titans have turned the ball over 13 times during their 1-3 skid. That includes a muffed punt. The 12 lost turnovers by the offense are the most by any NFL team since Week 11.

Niners quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo leads the NFL in both yards per pass attempt (8.5) and yards per completion (12.6). San Fran edge rusher Nick Bosa leads the NFL in tackles for losses (18) and is second in the league in forced fumbles (four) and sacks (15).

Tennessee is 9-1 this season when scoring at least 14 points. However, the Titans have been held to exactly 13 points in each of their last three losses. Last week, San Francisco held Atlanta to exactly 13 points in a 31-13 triumph.

Pick: San Francisco 49ers -3.5 (-110)
