Week 5 of the NFL season sees the Tampa Bay Buccaneers welcome the Atlanta Falcons for a divisional matchup on Sunday.

While both of these teams have very different goals for the 2022 season, each enters week 5 sitting at 2-2.

As Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady so eloquently stated, “we’ve seen a lot of bad football” through four weeks. Tampa enters week 5 coming off a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football.

On the other sideline, the Falcons come into week 5 after an upset victory over the Cleveland Browns.

You can catch this one on Sunday, October 9th at 1pm ET from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay. Explore all the odds and our predictions below.

Atlanta Falcons vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Atlanta Falcons +9.5 +350 Over 46.5 (-110)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers -9.5 -455 Under 46.5 (-110)

Odds as of October 7th at BetMGM

Buccaneers’ quarterback Tom Brady hasn’t lost three straight game since 2002, thus the Buccaneers moneyline odds are priced at a huge -455. Three of four Falcons game so far this season have gone over the total. With the spread at 9.5 points, a Falcons back door cover is always a factor to consider when betting this NFC South contest.

Atlanta Falcons Betting Trends

Frankly, Marcus Mariota and the Falcons’ offense have struggled to begin the season. That was always going to be the case as the team moved on from longtime pivot Matt Ryan.

Unfortunately, head coach Arthur Smith’s offensive gameplan has looked non-existent at some points this year. Yet, the Falcons have still managed to score more than 25 points per game this season behind a resurgent ground attack.

Through the exploits of newcomers Tyler Allgeier and Caleb Huntley, the Falcons have churned out over 165 yards per game on the ground. With veteran playmaker Cordarelle Patterson on injured reserve with a knee injury, the young running backs will have to carry the load against a stout Buccaneers defensive front.

Regrettably, star tight end Kyle Pitts is also set to miss this one with a hamstring injury. Mariota and the Falcons will struggle to keep this contest competitive.

The Atlanta defense has looked extremely fragile this season and could be just what the doctor ordered for an out-of-sync Buccaneers offense.

It’s important to note Atlanta is a perfect 4-0 against the spread for the first time since 2015. The Falcons have never begun the season 5-0 against the spread in franchise history.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Betting Trends

The underlying factor in the Buccaneers’ season so far are injuries. All three of Tom Brady’s top targets this season have missed time. Receivers Chris Godwin and Julio Jones have been banged up, while Mike Evans was suspended for an altercation with Marshon Lattimore and the New Orleans Saints. A banged-up offensive line has also greatly affected Tom Brady’s ability to efficiently operate this unit.

On the other side of the football, the Buccaneers’ defense had been dominant through three weeks before struggling against the magician named Patrick Mahomes. Head coach Todd Bowles defensive troops rank top-10 in both total yards against and scoring defense.

So far in his Tampa Bay career, Tom Brady has been dominant against the spread when coming off a loss the previous week. The immortal signal-caller enters this week 7-3 both straight up and against the spread after a loss as a Buccaneer.

Falcons vs Buccaneers Pick

It’s tough to envision a route for the Falcons to win. Brady simply does not lose three games in a row. Additionally, the Falcons are just 1-4 against the spread in their last 5 meetings in Tampa, while the home team is 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings overall.

Pick: Tampa Bay Buccaneers -9.5 (-110)
