I mean, calling that a dud would be insulting to duds.

Alas, Buffalo’s shocking 9-6 loss in Week 9 to the 1-win Jacksonville Jaguars wasn’t enough to shake them from the perch of Super Bowl favorites with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who themselves were on a bye.

The Bills’ blip is concerning only for the fact it’s now their second loss in three outings. Even with that loss, they’re still fifth in the NFL in scoring at 29.4 points a game, and Josh Allen is still be a viable MVP candidate. Buffalo should get right next week when they take on the Jets. We can hold the panic button on them till then.

Sunday’s early and late slates did provide many interesting developments shaking just beneath the favorites, including a batch of birds that keep on churning out W’s.

Let’s look at the updated odds to win the Super Bowl, and check the latest movers and shakers.

Cardinals Crush 49ers

No Kyler Murray, no DeAndre Hopkins, quite literally no problem for the Arizona Cardinals. They improved to 8-1 with a 31-17 thumping of the San Francisco 49ers.

Colt McCoy played mistake free while going 22-for-26 for 249 yards and a TD toss, while James Conner did much of the heavy lifting. The ex-Steeler rushed for 96 yards and a pair of scores, while also taking a screen 45 yards to the house to take the life out of Levi Stadium.

The defense was dominant, sacking Jimmy G five times, while taking the ball away two times. After their first loss of the year to the Packers in Week 8 that dropped them to +1100 odds, they’re right back in the mix with the 4th-best figure of +850. Hoping you took advantage last week — it’s still not too late to buy in now.

Chiefs Find a Way Against Pack

Are Patrick Mahomes and company playing rope-a-dope, or are they legit barely staying afloat in the playoff picture, let alone the title conversation?

Sunday was another anti-offensive showing, as the Chiefs outlasted the Aaron Rodgers-less Packers 13-7.

Mahomes looked mortal all game, going 20-for-37 for a season-low 166 yards and a TD toss. He averaged just 4.5 yards per attempt, and was sacked once. He did seal the game with a trademark scramble and completion that reminds of what they look like if they’re right.

The Chiefs climbed out of the AFC West cellar, though they’re still tied with the last-place Broncos at 5-4.

Their odds improve from +1300 to +1200, and there’s really nothing that should hold you back from taking a flier at this level.

KC is still the three-time AFC Finalist, and reigning two-time Super Bowl finalist. The road to Super Bowl 56 may not run through Kansas City, but they might just be able to reroute across the AFC if they can figure things out in the second half of the season.

Worth Buying?

Talk about obliterating the dark cloud flying over the Cleveland Browns.

After a dud of a loss to the Steelers a week ago, the dramatic and news-cycle worthy departure of Odell Beckham Jr, the Browns absolutely stomped the Cincinnati Bengals 41-16.

Without OBJ, the Browns’ identity is pretty set: a gritty run game, with timely passing and a stout defense.

They displayed all facets in Week 9. Nick Chubb pounded the rock 14 times for 137 yards and a score, while Baker Mayfield tossed for 218 yards and a pair of TD’s.

Meanwhile, the defense made life miserable for Joe Burrow, sacking him five times, while Denzel Ward picked him at the goal line and ran it back to the house.

From +3100, the Browns are now sitting with the ninth-best odds at +2000.

You’ve also got the LA Chargers, who snuck by the Eagles 27-24 to share first in the AFC West with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Justin Herbert threw for 356 yards and a pair of TD’s, and also ran in another. The Chargers, who entered Week 9 at +2500, now find themselves tied with the Tennessee Titans for the 10th-best Super Bowl odds at +2200.

Ups and Downs

Not even a stunning defeat at home to the Denver Broncos seemed to derail Dallas’ title hopes. In fact, just seeing Dak Prescott healthy after a calf injury was enough for oddsmakers to turn the other cheek, and shorten their odds from +1200 to +1100.

That thud you heard was the Bengals hitting rung after rung down the ladder. Since improving to 5-2 after an impressive win over the Ravens, they’ve lost to the Jets and were dominated by the Browns Sunday. They’re now a distant +5000.

The Ravens see a slight improvement from +1000 to +950, but they needed a furious comeback to beat the Vikings at home in overtime. They share the same odds with the Packers, who stay solid at +950, despite a loss to the Chiefs, and needing to give Jordan Love his first career start after the Rodgers COVID fiasco.
