Eagles Back to Being Odds-On Favorites to Win NFC East After Cowboys Lose Second Straight
- Sportsbooks have the Philadelphia Eagles as odds-on favorites to win the 2019 NFC East title
- The Eagles went from +130 to -130 in the span of a week
- Philadelphia has won three divisional titles since 2010
The Philadelphia Eagles are the latest NFC East team to beat their chests after beating the stuffing out of an NFL patsy.
The Eagles pummeled the New York Jets 31-6 on Sunday to improve to 3-2. That’s the same record as division-rival Dallas and, to be fair, both teams have taken advantage of some of the league’s weakest links to get to where they are in the standings.
The Eagles fashioned wins over two winless teams – the Jets and Redskins. The Cowboys also gained victories against the Redskins and the winless and woeful Miami Dolphins.
Nonetheless, the sportsbooks are ready to throw their support behind the Eagles. Across the leading online betting houses, Philadelphia is now the -130 chalk to capture the NFC East title in the NFL divisional odds.
2019 NFC East Odds

A week ago, the Eagles were at +130 to win the division, while the Cowboys were the -130 favorites.
Eagles Defense Making History
By crushing the Jets, Philly pushed its all-time record against New York’s AFC team to 11-0. That’s the most wins by any NFL team against another without ever suffering defeat. But that wasn’t the biggest news of the day.

The Eagles defense sacked Jets quarterback Luke Falk 10 times. Brandon Graham led the way with three sacks.
Nathan Gerry returned a Falk interception 51 yards for a touchdown. Orlando Scandrick scooped up a Jets fumble and rambled 44 yards for another defensive TD.
Since the NFL first began officially recording sacks as a statistic in 1982, Philly is the first team to record 10 sacks and two defensive TDs in the same game.
The Green Bay Barometer
Two weeks ago, the Eagles were 1-2 after consecutive losses to the Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions. Next up was a tough test at Lambeau Field against the 3-0 Green Bay Packers.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys were cruising at 3-0 and heading to New Orleans for a game against the Saints, who were minus injured QB Drew Brees. Pictures of Dallas running away with the NFC East title were being sketched out.
Then the Eagles went into Green Bay and packed up a tidy 34-27 win over the Packers, while Dallas stumbled and, after losing to that same Packers team in Week 5, has now dropped two straight.
The Cowboys fell behind Green Bay 31-3 before rallying to make the final scoreline more respectable.
Based on their record against common opponents, the Eagles currently own the tiebreaker for the NFC East and are situated as the #4 seed in the NFC.
NFC East Still A Close Call
It’s a two-horse race for the NFC East crown.
Dallas still has a few soft touches on its slate with games against the Jets, Giants and Redskins. But the Cowboys also get the Rams, Bears, Patriots, Bills, and two with the Eagles. Dallas is the only NFC team that plays both Super Bowl 53 participants.

The Cowboys have the most difficult strength of schedule in the NFC East, and 14th-hardest overall. That doesn’t bode well, considering their lack of success so far against good teams.
By contrast, the Eagles are dealing with the 26th-hardest slate.
The Eagles and Cowboys square off October 20th in Dallas on Sunday Night Football. Philly may get receiver DeSean Jackson (abdomen) back for that one.
Pick: Philadelphia Eagles (-130)
