Giants Coming off Costly Loss

New York hits the road after being humbled in a 28-10 loss to the visiting Minnesota Vikings last weekend, that dumps the squad to 2-3 going into Thursday night’s matchup at Gillette Stadium.

The Giants loss also came with casualties on the injury front. Wayne Gallman, who had been carrying the load for the injured Saquon Barkley joins the superstar on the shelf with a concussion.

Injuries to Engram, Shepard & Barkley Hobble Giants Attack

That is bad news for a Giants squad that looked to be making progress after rookie Daniel Jones was anointed as the team’s starting quarterback. With Jones under center, the Giants marched to an impressive 32-31 comeback victory over Tampa Bay as 5-point road underdogs in Week 3, and followed up with a 24-3 rout of the hapless Washington Redskins as a 3-point favorite a week later.

However, with Barkley sidelined, the Giants attack sputtered against a ferocious Minnesota defense. Giants rushers managed just 64 yards, with an 11-yard run from Gallman marking the longest carry of the day, while Jones mustered just 182 passing yards, while connecting on one scoring pass against one pick.

Now, with their top offensive weapons on the sidelines, the Giants must come up with a way to generate offense against a New England squad that has allowed just 6.8 points per game while opening the season on a 5-0 run.

Patriots Feasting on Inferior Opponents

The Patriots continued to feast on inferior competition last weekend, demolishing the Reskins 33-7, and covering as 16.5-point road chalk. That marked the fifth time in their past seven regular-season contests that the Patriots have been pegged as a double-digit favorite, and with good reason.

New England enters Thursday night’s contest riding a 10-game SU win streak that dates back to December of last season, and have covered in seven of those outings.

The Patriots have averaged 30.8 points per game over their 10-game surge, and have been simply outstanding on home turf, claiming SU wins in eight straight since October 2017, and covering the spread in 13 of those contests.

Can the Patriots Cover Massive Spread?

With the Giants hobbled by injury, confidence in a SU victory by the Patriots is high, with New England perched as a massive -1160 moneyline favorite. The bigger question is whether they can cover such a lofty spread.

The Patriots have gone 29-1 SU in 30 games over the past 10 years while favored at home by 10 or more points. The squad has also remained a reliable bet, covering in 12 of their past 15.

New England is also an impressive 9-1 ATS in their past 10 home dates while favored by 14 or more points, and have limited opponents to just 11.2 points per game during that stretch.

Picks: Patriots -17 (-109), OVER 41.0 (-109)
