  • The Chargers and Colts injury report for Monday Night Football is headlined by the return of LA’s star safety Derwin James
  • James (quad) sat out the previous two games but is good to go for tonight’s matchup
  • Below you’ll find the complete Chargers vs Colts injury report, plus analysis of how the key injuries have affected the betting lines

The final Chargers vs Colts injury report ahead of tonight’s Monday Night Football matchup brings good news to LA’s prospective playoff hopes. Star safety Derwin James is set to return for LA, bolstering a defense that has already been playing some of its best football of the season.

The Chargers have allowed an average of only 15.5 points during a two-game winning streak, and that was in spite of arguably their best defensive player missing action. LA, like seemingly every year, has been decimated by injury in 2022, but James’ return comes just in time for the stretch run.

LA Chargers Injury Report

James missed the Chargers’ Week 14 and Week 15 victories with a quad injury. Not only did LA do a fantastic job of holding opponents off the scoreboard, but their pass defense never looked better. They held both the Dolphins and Titans under 160 passing yards and under 285 total yards.

With Indianapolis trotting out Nick Foles for his first start in exactly a year tonight, consider fading Colts pass catchers in the Chargers vs Colts player props, especially Michael Pittman Jr.

The only LA player on either side of the ball that will miss tonight’s game is third string corner Kemon Hall (hamstring). That of course doesn’t include the laundry list of Charger starters on IR, including star pass rusher Joey Bosa, as well as starting left tackle Rashawn Slater.

Indianapolis Colts Injury Report

Indianapolis on the other hand, will be down a pair of starters, one on each side of the ball. Starting tight end Kylen Granson will sit with an ankle injury, as will starting corner Kenny Moore.

The Colts are trying to rebound from the biggest collapse in NFL history last week against the Vikings, and will need to rely on an inexperienced backfield to do so. That’s because last year’s rushing champ Jonathan Taylor (ankle) is on IR.

The switch to Foles under center is a curious one for multiple reasons. He’s been the third stringer for the entire season and both Matt Ryan and Sam Ehlinger, who’ve combined to start the previous 14 games, don’t carry injury designations. Making the move even more confusing is the fact that Indy has nothing to play for and a soon-to-be 34-year-old Foles can’t possibly be in their future plans.

Not surprisingly, bettors are all over LA in the Chargers vs Colts public betting splits. LA is currently drawing 78% of the spread tickets and 90% of the handle.

How Injuries Have Affected Chargers vs Colts Betting Lines

The Chargers are currently 4-point favorites after opening 1.5 points lower. James’ return certainly isn’t worth a full point and a half to the spread, and neither are the injuries to Granson and Moore. The reason people are hammering LA is the questionable decision to start Foles, plus the seemingly large mismatch LA’s skill position group has over the Indy defense.

For just the sixth time all season Justin Herbert will have all three of Austin Ekeler, Keenan Allen and Mike Williams at his disposal. Herbert has thrown for over 310 yards in three straight games, while the Colts defense just surrendered over 500 total yards in that comeback loss to the Vikings.

One of our experts is backing LA in the Chargers vs Colts picks, leaning on LA’s fantastic record under the lights. The Chargers are 4-1 ATS in primetime games this season.
