Problems Versus WR1

The Eagles are seventh in the NFL in pass defense, but the secondary has recently had problems covering premier receivers.

In Week 12, the Seattle Seahawks’ DK Metcalf has 10 receptions for 177 yards in a 23-17 victory in Philadelphia. That accounted for 77% of the Seahawks’ receiving yards and Metcalf’s longest gain was 52 yards.

Metcalf admitted he had some motivation in that game. The Eagles bypassed him in the second round of the 2019 draft and instead selected JJ Arcega-Whiteside.

The Green Bay Packers’ Davante Adams seemingly does hold a grudge against the Eagles. Nevertheless, he burned the them last week in the Packers’ 30-16 win in Green Bay.

Adams had 121 yards on 10 receptions while scoring two touchdowns. While the scores covered just one and nine yards, Adams also had a beautiful 42-yard catch.

The Saints have gone to a run-heavy offense during the three games that Hill has started, eclipsing 200 yards rushing in two of them. However, Philadelphia’s inability to stop top-flight receivers lately is an indication Michael Thomas should have a big day.

Hampered most of the season by injures, Thomas is coming off his best game of the season with nine receptions for 105 yards in a 21-16 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

He will keep rolling Sunday.

Pick: Thomas to go OVER 72.5 yards receiving (1 unit)

Eagles are Hurting

Coach Doug Pederson has finally done what Eagles fans have been clamoring for and benched Wentz.

Wentz has been a turnover machine this season. He has thrown a league-high 15 interceptions and lost four fumbles.

Now Hurts get a chance to save the season. Despite being 3-8-1, Philadelphia has slim playoff hopes as it trails the NFC East co-leading New York Giants and Washington Football Team – both 5-7 – by 1.5 games with four remaining.

The second-round draft pick from Oklahoma saw his first extensive action during the second half of last week’s loss to the Packers. He was a mixed bag.

Hurts then his first career touchdown pass, a 32-yarder to Greg Ward. However, Hurts also completed just five of 12 passes, was intercepted once, and sacked three times.

Hurts was the Heisman Trophy runner-up to Joe Burrow last season.

However, Hurts is going up a Saints defense that is first overall in the NFL, second against the run and fourth against the pass. And that defense has allowed a mere two touchdowns in the last five games.

Pederson is putting Hurts in a difficult spot with this matchup and it could be ugly.

Pick: Hurts to go UNDER 18.5 completions (1 unit)

Who Will Find The End Zone?

Considering the Saints have been a run-first team since Brees’ injury, running back Alvin Kamara seems certain, as usual, to be a big part of the offense.

Look for Kamara to score the first touchdown as New Orleans establishes the ground game early against the Eagles, who are 25th in the league in run defense.

For reasons mentioned above, Thomas seems like a strong bet to reach the end zone at least once. Surprisingly, that would be his first touchdown of the season after scoring nine last year when he was the NFL Offensive Player of the Year.

The picks: Alvin Kamara to score first TD (1 unit) and Michael Thomas to score anytime TD (1 unit)
