Are the Habs good value to start a series comeback, or should you bet on Auston Matthews’ Leafs to close this out?

Leafs Take Series Stranglehold
Toronto has taken a stranglehold over Montreal in the series thanks to three straight impressive victories. The Maple Leafs have outscored the Canadiens 11-2 over the last three games and are getting contributions from every line. William Nylander has scored in four straight games, while Alex Galchenyuk had a breakout in Game 4 with three points.
Toronto is known for its electric offense, but the defense is doing a good job shutting down Montreal’s top scorers. Tyler Toffoli and Brendan Gallagher have been held without a goal this series, whole rookie Cole Caufield has been held pointless since being inserted into the lineup for Game 3.

It’s no surprise the Leafs are now extremely heavy favorites to win the series. Teams that hold a 3-1 lead are 292-29 (91.0 percent) all-time winning a best-of-seven NHL playoff series.

Habs Will Be Desperate
Montreal is staring down a gauntlet as they look to keep their season alive. The Habs are tasked with winning three straight games against the NHL’s top team in the North Division. The Canadiens are 4-8-1 against the Leafs this year, including the regular season. Montreal coach Dominique Ducharme said Wednesday that his club needs to take their “desperation to another level.”

If the Habs want to extend the series, they will need big performances from their top players. Gallagher is due for a big game, while Toffoli could provide some inspiration based on his past experience. Toffoli was on the LA Kings’ team that went down 3-0 to the Sharks in Round 1 of the 2014 Playoffs. The Kings won four straight games to take the series.
If Habs can count on one thing in Game 5, it’s goaltending. Carey Price owns a .920 save percent this postseason despite managing only one win. He plays his best hockey on the biggest stage and is capable of stealing a game on any given night.
Injury Updates
The Habs will be without a couple key players for Thursday’s Game 5. Ducharme confirmed Wednesday that both Artturi Lehkonen and Jake Evans will not make the trip to Toronto. Both forwards are reportedly dealing with upper-body injuries.

The Maple Leafs remain without their captain John Tavares. The former Islander is dealing with a concussion and knee injury and is out indefinitely. The positive is that he visited the team in their practice facility after their Game 4 victory. The Leafs are also without Nick Foligno (lower-body). Sheldon Keefe said Foligno is day-to-day, and his Game 5 availability is “up in the air”.
Canadiens vs Leafs Game 5 Best Bet
Toronto has dominated this series, but the Habs should have some fight left. Veterans like Gallagher, Toffoli, Jeff Petry, Shea Weber, and Corey Perry have been in this situation before and aren’t going to go down without a fight. When Carey Price is your goaltender, all you need to win is a couple goals.
Public money is pouring in on Toronto given how well they’ve performed over the last three games. Montreal actually outchanced Toronto at 5-on-5 in Game 4 and generated nine high-danger chances. There’s value betting on Price to deliver another big performance and Montreal’s big guns to breakthrough.
Pick: Canadiens ML (+195)
