  • All of the Avalanche-Oilers odds and picks are analyzed in the story below

By the time the Edmonton Oilers and Colorado Avalanche take the ice on Monday night, all of the dealing will be done. The NHL trade deadline arrives earlier in the day at 3pm ET. Both of these teams will be looking to add assets on Monday.

The Oilers are seeking to solidify a playoff spot. Colorado is looking to make a Stanley Cup run.

Oddsmakers are setting the Avs as -210 home favorites over the Oilers. Edmonton is on a hot streak of late and is 5-0 straight up over the past five games.

Puck drop for Monday’s game at Ball Arena is set for 9:30pm ET. The total has gone over in four of Edmonton’s last five games. The over has also been the play in five of the Oilers’ last seven visits to play the Avalanche. However, the under has been the winner on the total in three of Colorado’s last four games.

Oilers vs Avalanche NHL Betting Trends

In the past week, Colorado already beefed up a talented lineup. Physical defenseman Josh Manson, whose dad Dave is an assistant coach with the Oilers, was added from Anaheim. Bottom-six center Nico Sturm was picked up from Minnesota for Tyson Jost.

Consistency is Colorado’s trademark. The Avalanche, favorites in the Stanley Cup odds this season, own at least a share of the NHL’s longest overall win streak (10), home win streak (18) and road win streak (7). Colorado also has the NHL’s longest point streak (19 games) and home point streak (22).

Oilers captain Connor McDavid, the favorite in the Hart Trophy odds, has posted 5-6-11 totals over the past five games. He’s posted five straight multi-point games.

Forwards Evander Kane (4-2-6) and Leon Draisaitl (3-4-7) and defenseman Tyson Barrie (2-6-8) and Darnell Nurse (1-3-4) are all riding four-game point streaks. Edmonton is 12-5-1 since Jay Woodcroft replaced Dave Tippett as coach.

Oilers Place Injured Turris on Waivers

On the LTIR with an undisclosed injury, the Oilers placed veteran forward Kyle Turris on waivers Sunday, no doubt to create cap space for a possible deal. Center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (upper-body injury) is also out.

Colorado is missing captain Gabriel Landeskog (knee surgery) defensemen Samuel Girard (lower-body injury) and Bowen Byram (post-concussion syndrome).

Koskinen Finding His Game Again

His 6-3 win Saturday over New Jersey was the 79th as an Oiler for Mikko Koskinen, moving him past Dwayne Roloson for six on the team’s all-time list. He’s 11-1-2 over his past 14 decisions.

Oilers vs Avalanche Projected Starting Goalies

Team Goalie Record SV% GAA
Oilers Mikko Koskinen 23-9-3 .904 3.04
Avalanche Darcy Kuemper 29-8-2 .923 2.41

Avs goalie Darcy Kuemper is tied for fourth in the league in wins (29) and ranks third in shutouts (5). He has pitched a shutout in each of his last two starts, becoming the first goalie in franchise history to post consecutive shutouts twice in the same season. While he isn’t among the top-10 in the Vezina Trophy odds, he does have the prohibitive Norris Trophy odds favorite (Cale Makar) in front of him.

Kuemper has stopped 104-of-105 shots (.990) over the past three games and is 20-3-2 in his last 28 contests.

Oilers vs Avalanche Pick & Prediction

Back home from a two-game road swing, the Avs are just 4-3 SU in their past seven home games. They’ve won two in a row at home against Edmonton. However, prior to that, Colorado lost four successive home games to the Oilers.

The Avs have won three in a row and the Oilers are on a five-game winning run. Something has to give. Colorado has allowed just three goals over the past three games. Edmonton surrendered nine goals in the past three games while playing Detroit, Buffalo and New Jersey. Go with the club that can play defense.

Pick: Colorado Avalanche ML (-210)
