The Carolina Hurricanes are being listed as heavy -186 favorites to take a 3-2 series lead over the Nashville Predators in their first-round playoff series. Game 5 is scheduled for 8:00 PM EST on Tuesday, May 25th, and will be broadcasted on CNBC.

The Predators won two consecutive games at Bridgestone Arena to rally from 2-0 down and even up the series. Nashville goalie Juuse Saros has been superb and is fuelling the Preds’ comeback.

Are the Predators good value as underdogs to win a third straight game, or should you bet Carolina to take a 3-2 series lead?

Canes Are Lethal on Home Ice

Carolina will have a chance to re-discover some of its mojo in this series as the team heads back home for Game 5. The Hurricanes won both playoff games against Nashville at PNC Arena and went 20-3-5 in their home building during the regular season. There is 12,000 fan capacity at PNC Arena for playoffs, which means the stadium will be rocking once again for Game 5.

The Hurricanes could also get a big boost in Game 5 with the potential return of workhorse blueliner Jaccob Slavin. The 27-year-old has missed the past three games with a lower-body injury and is one of the best defensive d-men in the game. Coach Rod Brind’Amour stated Monday he’s hopeful Slavin will return for Game 5.

The Hurricanes may be on a two-game losing streak, but they haven’t been playing poorly by any means. Each of the last two games have gone to double overtime, and the Hurricanes have outshot the Predators 117-97 in that span. Nashville is one of the most intimidating road environments in the NHL, so returning to familiar territory could swing this series back in Carolina’s favor.

Nashville Predators +176
Carolina Hurricanes -225

Saros Standing on Head for Preds

26-year-old netminder Juuse Saros is the primary reason this series is tied 2-2 heading into Game 5. The Finnish sensation has outdueled Carolina netminder Alex Nedeljkovic over the last two games, including turning in a 58-save performance in Game 4. Saros has stopped 110 of the 117 shots he’s faced over the last two games.

While Saros has been a brick wall in the crease, the Predators are getting offensive contributions from up-and-down their lineup. Nashville has scored nine goals over the past two games after being held to only two tallies in the opening two games of the series. Matt Duchene was the OT hero in Game 3, while Luke Kunin delivered the winner in Game 4. Blueliner Ryan Ellis leads the team in scoring with four points.

Predators vs Hurricanes Game 5 Best Bet

Nashville may have gained some momentum in this series, but it’s about to shift back in favor of the Canes. The home team has won every game in this series, and it’s clear the increased fan capacity is making a difference. Carolina was already one of the best home teams in their empty arena, and the 12,000 screaming fans at PNC Arena gives them an even bigger edge.

Saros has faced the second-most amount of shots among all NHL goalies this postseason, and fatigue is becoming a concern. As dominant as the Nashville goalie has been at Bridgestone Arena, Saros posted a .910 save percentage in 16 road starts during the regular season. He also gave up six goals in two playoff games in Carolina and is susceptible to hostile road environments.

The Hurricanes came up just short in the previous two games and are a great bet to bounce back in Game 5. The Canes had one of the NHL’s best power plays during the regular season but were 0-4 in Game 4 and are 2-for-14 in the series. Bet on Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov leading the Canes to a big rebound win after being held off the scoresheet in Game 4.

Pick: Hurricanes ML (-186)
