A night after a dramatic 5-4 shootout victory in Edmonton, the New York Rangers will stay in Alberta on Saturday to battle the Calgary Flames.

The Rangers have taken the first two legs of their Western Canadian road swing, but online sportsbooks are expecting a let down tonight. The Flames have been pegged as the chalk in the NHL odds, in what’s expected to be a high-scoring matchup.

Rangers vs Flames Betting Analysis

New York in an underdog role has nothing to do with the Rangers current form. They’re the hottest team in the league, and enter play riding a seven-game winning streak. Friday night’s victory was a nail bitter, as they overcame an early three-goal deficit to knock off the high-powered Oilers.

Reigning Vezina odds champion Igor Shesterkin shook off a four-goal first period, and was clean the rest of the way. He stopped five of six attempts in the shootout, before Alexis Lafreniere ended it for New York.

With the win, Shesterkin improves to 33-5-5 all-time versus Western Conference foes. He owns a .925 save percentage against teams from the West, and has won nine straight versus them.

It’s unclear if he’ll get the call tonight, on the second half of a back-to-back, or if it will be Jaroslav Halak. The 37-year-old is riding a personal seven-start winning streak, and was in net against the Flames for the team’s lone meeting this season.

The Rangers took that contest 5-4 at home in OT, in what was a nasty, fight-filled affair. The game featured three fights and 62 penalty minutes, including multiple instigator penalties by Calgary. New York has won five straight since that outing, while the Flames have lost three of four.

Calgary has dropped back-to-back games in which they were heavy favorites in both. They’re fresh off an embarrassing 5-2 home loss to the Red Wings, and are two points out of the final Wild Card spot in the West.

Rangers vs Flames Same-Game Parlay

The Flames have coughed up at least three goals in 11 of their past 15 outings, and surrendered five to New York in their first meeting. Number one goaltender Jacob Markstrom is on pace for the worst season of his career since he became a full-time starter, and has a dismal 0.869 save percentage over his past eight starts.

We’ll take the Rangers over 2.5 goals as the first leg of our same-game parlay, and Mika Zibanejad to score as our second leg. He leads the team with 30 goals, and has found the back of the net in six straight games. That includes two snipes versus Calgary the last time they met.

New York vs Calgary SGP

Pick Odds
Rangers O 2.5 Goals -165
Mika Zibanejad Anytime Goal +145
Rangers Moneyline +120
Total Odds +320

We’ll round out our SGP with a Rangers upset victory. This team is firing on all cylinders, and have outscored the opposition 23-13 since acquiring Vladimir Tarasenko from St. Louis.

Rangers vs Flames Prediction

The Flames goaltending funk has been a major issue all season. Only three teams boast a lower team save percentage. Lately, however, their offense has gone cold as well. They’ve failed to eclipse three goals in three of their past four contest, getting held to two goals or less twice by Detroit.

A power outage is the last thing you want to be experiencing prior to a date with New York. Yes, Shesterkin struggled in the opening 20 minutes on Friday, but in the subsequent 40 minutes, plus OT and the shootout, he proved why he’s the best goalie on the planet.

Even if the Rangers choose to rest their star, Halak is in the midst of a phenomenal stretch. He’s already beaten Calgary once, and is more than capable of getting the job done again.

New York’s form is too good to ignore, and their offensive firepower will likely overwhelm the struggling Flames. The Rangers have potted 36 goals over their past seven games, including 17 in their last three road outings.

Pick: New York Rangers Moneyline (+120)
