It’s a jam-packed Thursday night in the NHL with 13 games on the schedule including the St. Louis Blues looking to avenge last week’s 5-3 loss to the New York Rangers. The Blues are listed as -129 home favorites in the Thursday NHL odds.

The faceoff is set for 8:00 pm ET at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis as the home side looks to snap a four game losing streak. Let’s take a look at the Rangers vs Blues odds and work through our best NHL bet and prediction for Thursday night’s game.

Rangers vs Blues Odds

Game Time (ET) Team Puck Line Total Moneyline
Thursday, March 10th New York Rangers +1.5 (-230) O 5.5 (-118) +106
8:00 pm ET St. Louis Blues -1.5 (+185) U 5.5 (-104) -129

Odds as of March 10th at Barstool Sportsbook.

The total for this contest is set at 5.5 goals. The New York Rangers have been providing the best return on investment all season long when betting under the total with a 35-20-2 under record and a 22.86% return when placing that bet on them. The Blues’ -129 moneyline price gives them an implied win probability of 56.33%.

Rangers a Great Value Betting Under With Shesterkin

There is one massive reason why the Rangers have the best ROI when betting the under in their games and that’s because of the overwhelming favorite in the Vezina Trophy odds, Igor Shesterkin. He has completely taken over the Vezina race and his odds to win it now sit at -120.

The Russian netminder is having a season for the ages. His save percentage currently sits at .942 and only one goalie in NHL history has finished better in that category (Jacques Plante at .944 in 1970-71).

While his save percentage and goals against both lead the league, his true value to the Rangers goes much beyond that and has made him a serious contender in the Hart Trophy odds as well. The Rangers are 28-6-3 with Shesterkin in net for a points percentage of .797. Without him, they’re 8-10-2 for a points percentage of .450. It’s the age old adage, you’re only as good as your goalie.

The Blueshirts have gone under the total in seven of Shesterkin’s last eight starts. Ironically, the lone game in that span that went over was a 5-3 win against the Blues last week. That’s also the only game where Shesterkin has allowed more than 2 goals in his last 10 games.

St. Louis Blues Recent Betting Trends

The month of March has not been kind to St. Louis so far. They’ve lost all four games they played so far this month, a losing streak that started with the aforementioned 5-3 setback to the Rangers and, most recently, a 4-1 loss to the lowly Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.

The Blues are really struggling to find the net, going under the total in four of their last five games, which is a recipe for disaster considering they’re facing Shesterkin. They’ve scored just seven goals in their four losses this month and this slide has allowed other teams to close the gap in the postseason race, evidenced by the current Western Conference playoff odds.

This all comes after they went 7-1-1 in the month of February and were distancing themselves from the rest of the pack. Sniper Vladimir Tarasenko hasn’t scored in his last six games and will be hoping he can snap that drought against his countryman.

Rangers vs Blues Pick & Prediction

The Blues seem ripe for the picking for a Rangers squad who can take offensive chances knowing they have Shesterkin to bail them out if needed. St. Louis would be smart to stay out of the penalty box as that’s where the Rangers do most of their damage led by Chris Kreider who refuses to go away in the Rocket Richard odds and leads the league with 19 power play goals.

Having won three in a row and five of their last six with Shesterkin in goal, New York feels like a good pick, but the under feels like an even better option. The Blues recent lack of scoring combined with Shesterkin’s otherworldly play all suggests these teams won’t be able to muster over 5.5 goals between them.

Go with the recent trends and take under 5.5 goals at -104 in the Thursday NHL odds.

Pick: Under 5.5 (-104)
