Over/Under and Spread

Draftkings have pitched over 2.5 goals at even money, while under is listed at a less-appealing -125. They anticipate a tight and less end-to-end game than the one at Stamford Bridge.

AC Milan vs Chelsea Prediction

Milan were second best at Stamford Bridge last Wednesday and endured a miserable night as goals from Wesley Fofana, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Reece James gave the West Londoners a comfortable win. It was enough for Chelsea to leapfrog the Milanese in the table, albeit only on goal difference.

Both teams have a 1-1-1 record with Milan’s win coming on Matchday 2 when they beat Dinamo Zagreb 3-1 at the San Siro. The draw came on opening day when they traveled to Salzburg. As things stand, the Austrians currently lead the group.

Perfect Prep With Win Over Juve

Milan are a team with a great Champions League/European Cup heritage and have won it no less than seven times – only Real Madrid have won more – but have not appeared in the knockout phase of the tournament since 2013-14. After having won the Scudetto last season, they will be hoping this will be their time again.

They managed to put the Chelsea disappointment behind them quickly, and warmed up perfectly for the return tie with the Blues by beating the once-mighty Juventus at the weekend – Fikayo Tomori and Brahim Diaz the scorers in a 2-0 win. They are now fifth in Serie A – just three points behind leaders, Napoli.

The Blues Improve Under Potter

Chelsea’s win last Wednesday was vital after they had picked up just a single point from their first two games.  Defeat on opening day in Zagreb was the signal for the Chelsea board to sack Thomas Tuchel, but even under the newly-appointed Graham Potter, they only managed a draw against Salzburg on Matchday 2. The win over Milan resurrected their hopes of a place in the knockout stage.

After a difficult run both in Europe and domestically, Potter’s team have hit a rich vein of form and are three from three in their most recent games. At the weekend, they entertained Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Bridge and emerged with an emphatic 3-0 win with goals from Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, and Armando Broja.

Three Wins in Three for Chelsea

The win over Wolves took Chelsea up to fourth in the EPL table – eight points behind leaders Arsenal – and their early-season troubles appear to be behind them. Potter has settled in well and his team are starting to play the type of attractive football that became his trademark at Brighton.

The Blues have a good recent record in the UCL and won the competition outright in 2020-21 when they beat Manchester City 1-0 in the final. Last season was less successful, however, as they were beaten by the eventual winners, Real Madrid, in the quarter-finals. In the Champions League odds for this season, they are listed as joint-seventh favorites.

AC Milan vs Chelsea Team Lineups and Injuries

Milan Projected Lineup: Tatarusanu, Dest, Kalulu, Tomori, Hernandez, Bennacer, Tonali, Pobega, Diaz, Leao, Giroud.

Injuries & absences: Maignan, Florenzi, Ibrahimovic, Messias, Kjaer, Calabria, Saelemaekers.

Chelsea Projected Lineup: Kepa, Chalobah, Silva, Koulibaly, James, Loftus-Cheek, Kovacic, Chilwell, Sterling, Aubameyang, Mount.

Injuries & absences: Kante, Fofana, Ziyech.

AC Milan vs Chelsea Pick

Milan will be relieved to have cleared last Wednesday’s defeat out of their system with the excellent win over Juventus and it will be a very different AC team that faces Chelsea later today.  While the Blues will come into this with confidence, the stakes are so high I see the San Siro crowd having a role to play here. So there is value in the home win at +235.

Pick: AC Milan to win (+235)
