Pick1: BATE Borisov vs Shakhtar Soligorsk

It’s top versus second in Borisov on Sunday, with BATE having the perfect opportunity to extend their two-point lead at the top. Last weekend they dropped their first points for five games when they drew 2-2 with Vitebsk – the league’s draw specialists. Torpedo missed the chance to close the gap on BATE by only drawing 1-1 against Slavia, but it left the door open for Sunday’s visitors Shakhtar, whose 1-0 win over Energetyk saw them replace the Zhodino side in second.

A win here for Shakhtar will take them top, so the stakes couldn’t be higher, and they’ll go into the game with sky-high confidence, knowing victory will also make it five wins on the spin. Their rise up the table has been based upon an absolutely outstanding defense that has incredibly only conceded three goals all season, but they’ll be tested against BATE, the league’s top scorers. The league’s best attack vs the league’s best defense is an intriguing prospect.

When the two teams last met, back in November it was a 2-2 draw, and given there’s so much at stake it’s feasible this could be a cautious one where the two teams end up canceling each other out. It will be low scoring for sure – Shakhtar’s defense almost guarantees that – so the value here looks to be on a 0-0 or, maybe, a 1-1.

Pick: BATE and Shakhtar to draw (+226)

Pick 2: Dynamo Minsk vs Slavia Mozyr

Dynamo come into this off the back of a thumping 4-0 away win at bottom-of-the-table Belshina – the perfect response to the 1-0 defeat by Shakhtar the week before – but those two results reflect perfectly what has been a stop-start season from which they’ve been unable to properly progress beyond mid-table. Some good results, which took them within striking distance of the European places, have invariably been followed by disappointing defeats and dropped points.

Slavia too have been victims of inconsistency, for which the key factor has been a defense that simply ships too many goals. This was their problem again last weekend when a defensive horror show saw them lose 3-1 at home to Neman Grodno, and they now find themselves only two places above the relegation zone. Dynamo are, unsurprisingly, odds on for the win but there’s little value in the -231 on offer. However, given Slavia’s frailties at the back, there is value in the +100 on offer for three or more goals in the game.

Pick: O 2½, 3 (+100)

Pick 3: Torpedo BelAZ vs Dinamo Brest

On Saturday, Zhodino’s Stadyen Tarpeda hosts what promises to be one of the more entertaining games of the weekend, with Torpedo looking to make it three home wins on the spin. It will a tough afternoon for them though and they’ll have to play well to overcome Dinamo, who have finally hit their title-winning form of last season.

Consecutive wins over Ruh Brest (4-1) and FC Minsk (6-1) in the previous two league fixtures have lifted the reigning champions out of their slump and they’re starting to look like the team to challenge BATE for this season’s crown. The last time these two met, Brest won 4-1, and such has been the visitors’ form over the last fortnight, a similar result here is possible. Even the straight away-win offers some value as it’s still in plus money.

Pick: Dinamo Brest to win (+101)
