Hertha Berlin vs Wolfsburg Prediction

Hertha Berlin hosts Wolfsburg on Saturday in Bundesliga Matchday 2 as they look to turn their fortunes around against last term’s fourth-place club. Berlin has an atrocious track record versus their Matchday 2 opponents, winning just twice in their last 11 meetings with them on home soil.

Pal Dardai’s side didn’t get off to an ideal start in their opening match of the campaign, suffering a 3-1 defeat to FC Koln. After bagging the opener in the 5th minute via Stevan Jovetic, Hertha lacked the end product for the rest of the clash. On a more positive note for Saturday though, Berlin went unbeaten in their last six home games in 2020/21.

After securing a spot in the Champions League last season, Wolfsburg got back to their winning ways last weekend as they beat newly-promoted Bochum, 1-0. While it wasn’t the most convincing performance from an attacking standpoint, talisman Wout Weghorst netted their lone goal after the visitors were handed a red card early in the first half.

The Dutchman scored 20 goals last term for the Wolves and has already scored in each of his first two appearances in league and DFB-Pokal play. However, Weghorst didn’t net in two appearances against Hertha in 2020/21.

On paper, Wolfsburg is the stronger side and even though Berlin has been rock solid on home turf, I like the visitors to collect the full three points, with their main man finding the back of the net.

Pick: Wolfsburg (+130), Wout Weghorst to Score (+150)

Freiburg vs Dortmund Prediction

SC Freiburg welcomes Marco Rose’s Dortmund to town on Saturday in Bundesliga Matchday 2 as they look to capture their first victory of the term. Christian Streich’s men played to a scoreless draw with Arminia Bielefeld last Saturday, despite having their fair share of chances. Freiburg had a total of 15 attempts and five on target, but couldn’t beat Arminia keeper Stefan Ortega Moreno, who was stellar in between the sticks.

Streich’s squad has typically had little to no success against Dortmund. Their 2-1 victory over the Black and Yellows in February ended a 19-game winless streak. But, Freiburg has bagged four goals in their last two encounters with BVB on home soil, which is a reason for optimism.

Dortmund enjoyed a smashing start to the Bundesliga campaign, burying Frankfurt 5-2 on Matchday 1. Erling Haaland stole the spotlight, netting a brace and supplying two assists. The Norwegian has already scored five goals in three appearances for the club.

While a 3-1 defeat in the German Super Cup at the hands of Bayern Munich on Tuesday was disappointing, BVB will be strictly focused on getting a result here. Their track record against Freiburg is phenomenal and Haaland will be ready to erupt after failing to score against Bayern mid-week.

With that being said, it’s a no-brainer to put your money on the youngster to fire home a goal and for Dortmund to grab another victory in league action.

Pick: Dortmund (-190), Erling Haaland to Score (-165)

Bayer Leverkusen vs Borussia Monchengladbach Prediction

In arguably the most intriguing fixture of the Bundesliga Matchday 2 weekend, Leverkusen faces arch-rivals Borussia Monchengladbach. The hosts secured just a point from their opening game as they drew 1-1 with Union Berlin. All the goals were said and done with in the first 15 minutes, with Moussa Diaby equalizing just minutes after Taiwo Awoniyi fired Berlin ahead.

It was a rather possession-heavy game for Gerardo Seaone’s side, controlling 67% of the ball. However, despite registering 16 shots, just three found the target. Leverkusen will be feeling confident ahead of Saturday’s encounter, winning their last three matches against Gladbach.

Following a disappointing eighth-place finish last season, the visitors were tasked in their season opener with the current title-holders, Bayern Munich. However, Adi Hutter’s squad showed extremely well, even taking the lead early in the first period through a terrific Alassane Plea finish. The always clinical Robert Lewandowski drew the champions level just before the halftime whistle though, with both sides failing to find a winner in the second half.

While Gladbach hasn’t done well against Leverkusen in recent memory, they have won three of their last five encounters with them on the road. On top of that, the Colts will also have their heads held high after keeping an electrifying Bayern side at bay. It’s time for Monchengladbach to end this losing streak and spoil Leverkusen’s party.

Pick: Borussia Monchengladbach (+200)
