The Canucks were humbled on Sunday in a disappointing 4-1 defeat at the hands of Croatia, who outclassed them and officially eliminated Les Rouges. The Moroccans on the other hand, pulled off one of the latest upsets at the World Cup in Qatar, beating Belgium 2-0 in shocking fashion.

Canada vs Morocco Preview

The Canadians won’t be pleased to know they’re heading home early after failing to progress to the last 16. But for a nation that is relatively new to the world stage, it’s not exactly surprising. Sure, John Herdman’s side pushed Belgium to the brink on Matchday 1 and got off to a fantastic start against Croatia when Alphonso Davies scored within two minutes. However, it’s clear there is still lots of work ahead for Canada.

With that being said, Thursday is a clear-cut chance to get a result in Qatar before their World Cup journey ends. Morocco has looked good, but they’re not unbeatable. After the Canucks were embarrassed by Croatia, there should be serious motivation here. That’s for sure. The nation’s first-ever points in the tournament are on the line. Lots to play for.

Morocco is in a great position heading into Thursday. Win or draw and they’re through to the knockouts. A defeat could still see them progress, but Croatia would need to lose by two more goals, or Belgium simply tastes defeat, too. The Moroccans’ fate truly lies in their hands.

The Atlas Lions looked on their way to another scoreless draw on Sunday against the Red Devils until Abdelhamid Sabiri caught Thibaut Courtois off-guard as he whipped in a free kick inside the near post to give Morocco an improbable lead. Then in injury time, they sealed the deal as Zakaria Aboukhlal finished off a brilliant piece of work from Hakim Ziyech. The confidence is high right now and that will continue for such a crucial fixture on Thursday against a Canadian side looking to play spoiler.

Canada vs Morocco Prediction

It could be difficult for Canada to really get themselves up for this clash knowing there is nothing on the line. However, it simply comes down to a sense of pride and it just feels like the Reds and Whites deserve some type of result. Morocco has never lost to the Canadians however and does not lack incentive. I’m liking a draw.

Pick: Draw +230
