This weekend’s La Liga Matchday 38 will be the final round and it’s shaping up to be a thrilling finish. Atletico Madrid basically has one hand on the trophy but, the full three points on Saturday would guarantee them the title.

Real Madrid on the other hand is just two points shy of the league leaders and needs a positive result against Villarreal in order to have any hope of winning it all. They will also be praying that Atleti somehow slips up at 19th place Valladolid.

Valladolid vs Atletico Madrid Prediction

One of the biggest clashes of the weekend will see Atletico visit relegated Valladolid in La Liga Matchday 38. Diego Simeone’s side can practically taste top spot at this point, but one more crucial victory can confirm just their second title in 25 years.

Atleti looked to be in serious trouble on Sunday after conceding a 75th-minute opener to Osasuna. But, they ultimately responded with two goals of their own in the next 13 minutes, capped off by a Luis Suarez winner. It was a very dominant performance, holding 73% of the possession in the fixture. Atletico heads into this game in good form, tasting defeat just once in the last five.

For Valladolid, they’re basically looking to play spoiler at this point. Sergio Gonzalez’s men are already heading down to Spain’s second tier after three years in the top flight. It’s been a very dreadful season and it didn’t get much better last weekend, suffering a 4-1 defeat to Real Sociedad. In fact, Valladolid hasn’t won in 11 games.

There is so much at stake for Atletico here. The visitors ran out as 2-0 winners at Wanda Metropolitano in the reverse fixture in December and I expect to see a similar result again with their opponents playing poor football currently.

Pick: Atletico Madrid to Win by 2 (+310)

Real Madrid vs Villarreal Prediction

Madrid’s last kick at the can will be on Saturday against Villarreal in La Liga Matchday 38. A lot has to go right for them to have a shot at capturing a second-straight La Liga title but a victory is ultimately the only result acceptable.

Zinedine Zidane’s squad barely pulled out a 1-0 win on Matchday 37 against Athletic Bilbao, with Nacho bagging a late goal to send them back to the capital with a vital three points. Their domestic form has been tremendous since the turn of the year, losing just once in league play. Aside from Atletico, Los Blancos have one of the finest backlines in Spain, conceding only 27 times.

This game is just as important to Villarreal as they look to secure their ticket in the Conference League at the very least next term. While the Yellow Submarine can clinch an automatic berth in Europa by beating Manchester United in the final of the competition on May 26th, a victory against Madrid can also put them in a prime position.

Currently, Villarreal is tied with Real Betis in sixth spot and if they stayed level, it would come down to head-to-head goal difference and points against one another. Unai Emery’s men can also move above Sociedad into fifth place with a win if Osasuna draws or beats them.

Real has a boatload of absences defensively, with Raphael Varane a major doubt while Sergio Ramos is confirmed out. Four of the last six meetings between these two sides have ended in draws while five of them have hit the over in goals. Follow the trend.

Pick: Draw +390, Over 2.5 Goals (-205)

Celta Vigo vs Real Betis Prediction

Two in-form teams in Celta Vigo and Real Betis meet on Saturday in La Liga Matchday 38. For Vigo, they’re out of the race for the top-six, but they’ll be looking to finish the term on a high note. The side has won five straight matches, conceding only three goals during that span.

Celta crushed Barca’s title dreams last Sunday thanks to a brace from striker Santi Mina, with the homegrown talent netting a winner in the dying minutes of the second half. While their goal differential has been frankly awful this season, Vigo is looking like a much different team right now.

Betis is in a dogfight for Europa with both Villarreal and Sociedad but the full points here would absolutely keep their hopes alive. While Manuel Pellegrini’s squad hasn’t suffered defeat since mid-March, they’ve also drawn seven of the 10 games since. Betis did pull out a victory in round 37 though, beating a poor Huesca side.

While the visitors have won three of the last four clashes between the two, I really like Celta Vigo. Real Betis is also disappointing on the road with a 6-5-7 record, while the hosts have collected three straight victories at Estadio de Balaídos.

Pick: Celta Vigo +210
