It seems premature on Matchday 2, but this is pretty much a must-win for Porto after a group-opening defeat to Atletico Madrid. On paper, this should be the easiest fixture in the group stage for the Portuguese club, who have made it into the last 16 or better in four of the last six seasons. As the betting markets suggest, the hosts are expected to win on Tuesday, with a home win given an implied probability of 70.6%.

Brugge have struggled in the Champions League in the 21st century, but they come into this match full of confidence after an impressive victory over Leverkusen. They have also won six in a row in all competitions, including a dominant 2-0 victory over Seraing at the weekend with 77% possession. Brugge went toe-to-toe with Leverkusen, earning an almost equal share of possession and registering nine shots to Leverkusen’s 14. Getting such an even share of the match on the road is a bigger ask, particularly facing this Porto team. While the hosts lost to Atletico last week, they have been in better domestic form than Leverkusen, who have had a rocky time in the Bundesliga.

One player at the center of that attacking success has been Evanilson — the 22-year-old is expected to start on Tuesday with Mehdi Taremi suspended. Evanilson scored off the bench at the weekend, taking him to three goals in just over 300 league minutes. Add in a Super Cup goal and Evanilson has started the season very well after netting 14 times in 25 league starts in 2021-22.
