Liverpool’s defense of their EPL title has been little short of a disaster with the Red currently in eighth, three places and five points adrift of the Europa League place and eight away from the Champions League places.

Wolves too are having a disappointing season and despite having an expensively assembled squad, find themselves down in 12th – a full 13 points shy of fifth. The pair meet at Molineux on Monday, in round 29 of the Premier League, March 15 (KO 3pm ET).

Domestic Disaster for Liverpool

Despite heading to Molineux with some miserable Premier League form behind them, Liverpool’s Champions League form – where they go toe-to-toe with the elite of Europe – has been excellent and has papered over the cracks of their underwhelming domestic campaign.

A fine 2-0 midweek win over RB Leipzig in the Champions League sealed an aggregate 4-0 win over a team that made the semifinal of the competition last season — no mean feat and perhaps a signal of renewed intent from Jurgen Klopp’s men.

With their midweek goals coming from Mo Salah and Sadio Mane — two of their goalscoring superstars who have both struggled to hit the heights this season — Klopp will be hoping the win in Budapest will be the boost his team needs ahead of the season’s run-in.

Despite being several points adrift of the European places, the German knows there is enough quality in his squad to put together a run of consecutive wins that could potentially close that gap.

Five Wins Over Wolves on the Bounce for Reds

Also in the Reds’ favor is an excellent record against Wolves, who they have beaten in each of their last five meetings. With most of Liverpool’s problems coming at Anfield, where they have lost an incredible six on the bounce, the fact they are playing away will come as something of a relief to Klopp’s men.

With those six defeats coming off the back of an unbeaten run at Anfield that stretched back 68 games, this has been an implosion few saw coming. But with the Reds only losing nine games in total, it is fairly obvious where their problems lie.

Wolves Failing in Bid for Top Six Finish

For Wolves, under the management of Nuno Espírito Santo, this was supposed to be the season where they pushed on and gate-crashed the EPL’s top six. After finishing seventh for the last two seasons, it seemed the next logical step for the well-funded club from the Black Country. Instead, it has been a season of mid-table mediocrity and, as things stand, they are far from guaranteed even a top-half finish.

Despite losing Matt Doherty to Tottenham and Diogo Jota to Liverpool in the summer, Nuno still looked to have a quality squad at his disposal, one that was more than capable of maintaining their high-standing among the EPL’s elite.

But a horrific early-season injury to last season’s leading scorer, Raul Jimenez, hit them hard. Despite spending £35 million on Portuguese teenage sensation Fabio Silva in the summer, they have been unable to plug the void left by Jiminez and have scored just 28 goals in their 28 EPL games.

Misfiring Wolves

In an attempt to add some firepower to their squad, in the January transfer window, Wolves signed renowned goalscorer Willian Jose on loan from Real Sociedad but in the nine games he has played so far, the Brazilian has yet to find the net, a sign that it is not just a case of Wolves missing chances but also not creating enough of them.

So, while the Reds arrive at Molineux with some indifferent league form behind them, the fact their woes are mainly at Anfield and in midweek they had that brilliant win against strong European opposition, suggests to me an away win is on the cards here.

Wolves’ lack of goals is an ongoing cause for concern for them and even against Liverpool’s makeshift back-four, it is hard to see the Old Gold scoring more than once.

Picks: Liverpool to win (-139) / Liverpool to win 3-1 (+1200)
