Not Just A Doubles Player

Krejcikova is most known as a doubles player, but the former doubles World No.1 is making a name for herself in singles play this year. The 25-year old captured her first WTA singles title in Strasbourg, right before the French Open, and has been able to continue the success.

On route to the semifinals, Krejcikova has only dropped one set, the first set of her first round match, and has defeated the likes of Elina Svitolina, Sloane Stephens and most recently Coco Gauff.

In her quarterfinal match against Gauff, she recorded 27 winners and 28 unforced errors in comparison to Gauff’s 17 winners and 41 unforced errors to win 7-6(6), 6-3. Krejcikova did find herself having to rally in the first set where she was forced to save five set points. But once she got through that first set, she managed to settle, and really breeze through the rest of the match, to earn a spot in her first Grand Slam semifinals in singles.

Sakkari Defeats Defending Champ

The 25-year old is coming off a straight set quarterfinal win to send home defending champion Iga Swiatek, who hadn’t lost a set all tournament. Sakkari ended Swiatek’s 11-match win streak in Paris after winning 6-4, 6-4, in just over an hour and a half.

In back-to-back fashion, Sakkari defeated both 2020 French Open finalists on route to her first Grand Slam semifinals appearance.

In the quarterfinal match, the Greek star went down 0-2 in the first set before finding her footing. She was able to even it out, but it was a lot of back and forth before she was able to break for 5-4, and eventually win the set.

Sakkari recorded 26 winners on route to the win, and executed a variety of shots. From dropshots, to strong forehands, and a few aces, she was able to keep her opponent on her toes, and take advantage of a number of unforced errors.

In a career-best run at a Grand Slam, Sakkari will now look to take on Krejcikova in the semifinals who she lost to just earlier this year.

Head-to-Head
These two have seen each other twice before in their careers. The first meeting came back in 2014 when both were just coming up in the tennis world, but the most recent match came earlier this year in the Round of 64 in Dubai. Krejcikova has taken both matches in straight sets to lead their head-to-head 2-0.

Best Bet

Sakkari is the slight favorite because of her impressive performance against Swiatek in the quarters. She is playing so well, and is so strong, she’s shown that she can outhit any opponent that she has to go up against. Surprisingly, against Switek she didn’t just rely on her strong groundstrokes from the back of the court. I mentioned above that she executed a variety of shots. She went on to win 75 percent of the points when she went up to the net. This match could be interesting solely based on that, both players execute variety very well.

A big aspect of both players game worth noting is the serve. Sakkari had a great serve against Swiatek, winning 83 percent of her first-serve points, but Krejcikova on the other hand was unable to find her, recording eight double faults.

Because both players measure up quite similar, so it could be the smallest things that are the difference in the match. But it’ll most likely be a tight match that should go the distance.

Best Bet: Over 2.5 (+130)
