Davies to See Old Friends
Zach Davies will be facing his former team after being dealt to the Cubs as part of the offseason trade that sent Yu Darvish to the Padres.
Davies had a rough time his last time out last Thursday against the Giants at San Francisco as he allowed four runs and eight hits in 4.1 innings with two walks and four strikeouts while taking the loss.
However, Davies is 1-1 with a 2.52 ERA in his last seven games. He has shown some slick glove work, too.

Only once in 12 starts has Davies pitched at least six innings this season. That also represents his lone quality start.
Davies has struggled on the road, going 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA in six starts. However, he is 6-2 with a 3.40 ERA in nine career starts at Petco Park and 4-0 lifetime against the Padres with a 3.31 ERA in six starts.
Padres Career Stats vs Davies

The Padres have gone nine straight games without having multiple hits with runners in scoring position, going 6 for 56 (.107). They were 1 for 12 in those situations Monday despite the nine-run outburst.
First baseman Eric Hosmer had the Padres’ lone hit with RISP on Monday and leads the NL with 24 hits in those situations.

The nine-run effort also ended a string of eight games in a row in which the Padres scored four runs or less.
Lamet Still Stretching Out
Lamet’s last start came against the Cubs last Wednesday at Chicago, and he looked sharp in a four-inning stint. He yielded one and four hits in four innings while striking out six and walking one.
The start was Lamet’s longest outing of the season both in terms of innings and pitches (72). The Padres are slowly easing Lamet back into action after he sustained an elbow injury late last season.

Lamet has made five starts and two relief appearances. Last season, he went 3-1 with a 2.09 ERA in 12 starts and finished fourth in the National League Cy Young Award voting during the pandemic-shortened season.
In three career starts against the Cubs, Lamet is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA. He has pitched well at home this season, going 1-0 with a 1.00 ERA in four games, including two starts.

Cubs shortstop Javier Baez sat out Monday’s game with a bruised right thumb and is considered day-to-day. He got the Padres last week.

Outfielder Joc Pederson (lower back tightness) pinch hit Monday after missing Sunday’s win against the Giants in San Francisco. He will likely be in the lineup Tuesday.
The Cubs have scored five runs or fewer in their last five games.
Machado, O’Grady Lead Way
Manny Machado and Brian O’Grady each homered and had three RBIs to lead the Padres in Monday’s win.
Machado hit a solo home run and two sacrifice flies. O’Grady had a two-run homer and an RBI single.

Ian Happ homered for the Cubs.
It was the Padres’ first win in four tries against the Cubs this season after getting swept in a three-game series last week in Chicago.
While Davies’ track record against the Padres and at Petco Park are good, looking for the Padres to prevail as Lamet keeps getting stronger with each outing.
The Pick: Padres (-177)
