Las Vegas holds a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-five series. The Aces, which took Game 1 by a score of 67-64 before making it two in a row with an 85-71 victory in Game 2, fell in the Game 3 on Thursday when the Sun bounced back and extended the series with a 105-76 blowout victory at home.

Aces Lead WNBA Finals

Las Vegas, which entered the Finals as favorites in the WNBA Championship odds with odds of -260, aim to cross the finish line in claiming the series once and for all in Game 4 after dropping just its second game of the postseason in Thursday’s loss.

Prior to the Game 3 loss, the Aces had been 2-0 in series-clinching games. On Sunday, Las Vegas attempts to secure its first WNBA title in franchise history with a victory over Connecticut.

Aces vs Sun Head-to-Head

Aces

A key for Las Vegas during the Finals has been its ability or inability to limit breakout quarters by Connecticut in the first half. In Game 1 Las Vegas jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter only to allow the Sun to hold a 21-9 advantage in the second quarter to retake the lead before halftime.

In the Game 3 defeat, Connecticut broke the game open early with a 34-19 edge in the first frame en route to a win. Las Vegas needs to not only get out to a lead early, but limit Connecticut in doing so to try and pull out a victory.

A consistent star for Las Vegas in the series has been 2022 MVP and Defensive Player of the Year A’ja Wilson. She has been dominant, averaging 23.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 1.3 steals in the Finals. Wilson needs to continue that trend, both offensively and defensively, to lead the Aces to a victory and ultimately the league title.

Sun Eying Another Game 5

Connecticut continues to try and defy all odds in the WNBA Finals. After falling in an early hole in the series, they’re attempting to become the first team in league history to come back to win the Finals after being down 2-0.

The Sun have shown the ability to step up when their backs are against the wall. They hold a record of 4-0 this postseason when facing elimination. Connecticut hopes that trend continues at least one more time in Sunday’s Game 4 to keep its season alive.

The biggest key to the Sun getting the job done and taking their first game of the Finals in Game 3 was due to finally putting together a complete team performance. That’s something that didn’t happen in the first two games with a few different players struggling in each loss.

In Thursday’s blowout win, Connecticut was able to correct that, seeing six players finish in double figures while shooting 55.8 percent from the field. For the first time, the entire Sun core played like we’ve seen them perform most of the season.

Another reason for Connecticut’s recent success has been its dominance in the paint against Las Vegas. In Game 3, the Sun outscored the Aces 64-26 in the paint, the second time in three games Connecticut has held that advantage.

Leading forces behind that dominance has been the play of Jonquel Jones, averaging 17.0 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists in the Finals, and Alyssa Thomas, averaging 16.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 2.3 steals in the last three games, who have led Connecticut in the series.

Aces vs Sun Picks

Sunday’s Game 4 could be most important contest of the Finals, even though the series could ultimately go to a winner-take-all Game 5 on Tuesday. You have a feeling that if Connecticut pulls out another victory at home in Game 4, the Sun could continue that hot streak to take the series-deciding Game 5 on the road. The urgency of both teams on Sunday will be evident, setting up for a highly entertaining battle once again.

In the end, expect Las Vegas to rebound from a loss in Game 3 to grab the win on the road in Game 4 to take the series 3-1 and come away as WNBA champions for the first time. The Aces are too dominant of a team to defeat two games in a row, something only occurred three times in the regular season and has yet to happen in the playoffs.

For the best bet of the game, go with the under on the total of 163 points listed entering the game. Two out of the three games have totaled under the mark set as the over/under, which means this Game 4 battle could very well result in the same on Sunday.

The Pick: Under 163.0 (-110)
