Probable Pitchers

Left-hander Julio Urias (20-3, 2.96), the MLB regular-season wins leader, will pitch for the Dodgers against Kevin Gausman (14-6, 2.81).

Urias became the major leagues’ only 20-game winner this season when he beat the Milwaukee Brewers last Sunday in Los Angeles. He allowed one run on one hit in six innings while striking out seven and walking two.

Urias vs Gausman

Julio Urias

20-3 Record 14-6
2.96 ERA 2.81
3.12 xERA 3.49
1.01 WHIP 1.04
5.13 SO/W 4.54

The postseason has served as Urias’ stage to shine in the past. He has a 6-2 career record with a 2.79 ERA in 18 games (three starts), including getting the win in the decisive Game 6 of last year’s World Series against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Urias won his last 11 decisions of the regular season and hasn’t lost since June 21 against the Padres in San Diego. He is 11-0 in his last 17 starts with a 2.03 ERA.

The Dodgers have been nearly unbeatable when Urias starts as they have a 26-6 record. He has turned in quality starts in 13 of his 32 outings while going 13-2 with a 2.71 ERA in 18 starts on the road and 12-2 with a 3.23 ERA in 23 starts in night games.

Urias went 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA in five starts against the Giants in the regular season and is 2-3 versus them lifetime with a 2.64 ERA in 20 games (14 starts). At Oracle Park, he is 2-2 with a 2.92 ERA in 10 games (six starts).

Gausman is 0-1 with a 4.09 ERA in his last four starts, though he pitched well in his last start of the regular season against the Padres at home. He yielded only one run and six hits in seven innings with five strikeouts and one walk, but he did not factor in the decision.

Gausman had 20 quality starts in 33 outings this season and the Giants have gone 21-12 when he takes the mound. At home, Gausman has a 6-4 record with a 3.44 ERA in 14 starts. He is 6-3 with a 3.38 ERA at night in 17 starts.

Against the Dodgers in the regular season this year, Gausman was 1-1 with a 3.21 ERA in three starts. He has a 1-3 career record against them with a 3.99 ERA in eight games (seven starts).

Gausman will be making the first postseason start of his nine-year career. He has made four playoff relief appearances and compiled a 2.70 ERA.

Posey is Urias’ Foil

Giants catcher Buster Posey has had success against Urias, going 9 for 18 (.500) with three doubles. Backup outfielder Austin Slater could also find his way into the starting lineup as he is 6 for 17 (.353) off Urias with two doubles and one homer.

Gausman, though, has overmatched center fielder Cody Bellinger, holding him to two singles in 16 at-bats with seven strikeouts.

Dodgers second baseman Trea Turner went 0 for 4 in Game 1 after finishing the regular season on a 19-game hitting streak then getting two hits in the wild card game.

Dodgers vs Giants Pick

In Game 1, Posey hit a two-run home run to open the scoring. That was more than enough support for Logan Webb, who struck 10 and allowed five hits in 7.2 scoreless innings in his postseason debut.

That came after the Giants won the regular season series 10-9 from their NL West rivals.

Game 2 might not be a must-win for the Dodger but it’s close. Look for Urias to again rise to the occasion in October against Gausman, who stumbled down the stretch in the regular season.

The Pick: Dodgers moneyline (-115)
