  • The Mariners and Cubs wrap up a three game set with a matinee affair on Wednesday, April 12th
  • Despite ace Marcus Stroman starting for the Cubs, this game is a pick’em on the moneyline
  • Check out the Mariners vs Cubs odds below, plus our best bet and prediction for this game

There’s nothing like a weekday afternoon ballgame at Wrigley Field. On Wednesday, April 12th, the Mariners (4-8, 2-3 away) and Cubs (6-4, 5-3 home) finish off a three game series with Chicago looking for the sweep. First pitch is scheduled for 2:20 pm ET in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and Root Sports.

Game three of this set comes after these teams exploded for 28 hits and 23 runs on Tuesday night in what ended up being a 14-9 Chicago victory. That’s the most runs either side has given up so far this season.

Seattle will have to deal with Cubs ace Marcus Stroman as they look to avoid getting swept for the first time this year. You can find the Mariners vs Cubs odds below, plus our best bet and pick for this matchup.

Mariners vs Cubs Odds

Team Moneyline Runline Total
Seattle Mariners -108 -1.5 (+146) O 10 (-105)
Chicago Cubs -108 +1.5 (-176) U 10 (-115)

Neither team is the chalk in the moneyline for this one with both sides owning -108 odds in a pick’em matchup. The  Mariners are the favorites on the run line paying out at +146 if you think they’ll win this game by a couple runs.

After last night’s high scoring affair, the over/under for this contest has been set at a rather high 10 runs, which seems especially high considering who will be on the mound for each side.

Seattle vs Chicago Probable Pitchers

Lanky righty Logan Gilbert gets the ball for the Mariners looking to put his last outing behind him. Both Gilbert’s starts this season have come against the Guardians and he lasted only four innings, giving up three earned runs in his last appearance.

A 2018 first round pick of Seattle, Gilbert really established himself as a dependable part of the rotation in his first full campaign last year. He threw 185 innings, going 13-6 with a 3.20 ERA while punching out 174 batters.

Gilbert vs Stroman 2022 Stats

Logan Gilbert
VS
Marcus Stroman
13-6 Record 6-7
3.20 ERA 3.50
1.18 WHIP 1.15
.242 OBA .234
3.55 SO/W Ratio 3.31

Stro-Show has been lights out in the early going for the Cubbies. He hasn’t allowed a single run, going six innings in both of his starts. He’s allowed just five hits in those two outings combined. An extreme longshot at +15000 in the Cy Young Award odds, he is the leader of this Chicago pitching staff.

Looking as healthy as ever, the fiery 31-year old is off to a much better start than last season. In the month of April last year, Stroman went 0-3, with a 6.98 ERA in four starts. Needless to say, he’s completely flipped the script to begin this campaign.

Mariners vs Cubs Prediction

Although these teams combined for a ton of offense Tuesday, neither manager ran their bullpen ragged. The Mariners used a trio of relievers after their starter couldn’t get past the 3rd inning, while the Cubbies used four relievers, so there are still some fresh arms on both sides.

Perhaps the quick turnaround from a night game to a day game is one of the reasons the over/under is set so high at 10 runs in the MLB odds for this contest, but it looks like the sportsbooks gave us an easy money bet to make here.

In Stroman’s first two games of the year, the combined runs scored by both teams amounted to six. He pitched the Cubs to 4-0 and 2-0 shutout victories. His adversary on Wednesday afternoon, Gilbert ended up losing his first start 2-0, while his team came back to win his second start, 5-3.

So, in four appearances by both pitchers this season, the games they were involved in combined for 16 runs. That’s an average of four per game. Even if that total is doubled, this one hits the under, so count on the reverse of Tuesday night and pick the under in the Mariners vs Cubs odds for this series finale.

Pick: Under 10 (-114)
