Trail Blazers Betting Outlook

Damian Lillard went off for 41 points to lead the Trail Blazers over the Suns on Friday.

Lillard made all 12 free throws and had a 28-point first half. That came after he scored 20 points Wednesday in the Trail Blazers’ season-opening win over the Kings in Sacramento.

Last season, the six-time All-Star was limited to 29 games by an abdominal injury.

Anfernee Simons’ hook shot with 7.2 seconds left in overtime gave the Trail Blazers the win. Lillard had tied the score at 111-111 on two free throws with 33.9 seconds remaining.

Lillard had a chance to win the game at the end of regulation, but his off-balance jumper was off the mark.

Jusef Nurkic had 20 points and 17 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Simons, with NBA 6th Man of the Year odds of +2500 and NBA Most Improved Player odds of +3600, finished with 16 points and Josh Hart added 10.

The Trail Blazers had 18 turnovers but forced the Suns into 16 giveaways.

Trendon Watford (hip) is questionable for Sunday’s game. Gary Payton II (abdomen) and Olivier Sarr (wrist) are out.

Lakers Betting Outlook

Starting his 20th season, LeBron James is playing as well as ever. He is averaging 25.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 7.0 assists, though it hasn’t been enough to get the Lakers a win.

James, whose NBA MVP odds are +2500, has recorded double-doubles in both games. In Thursday’s loss to the Clippers, he contributed 20 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.

Anthony Davis scored 25 points after a 27-point outing Tuesday night in a road loss to the Golden State Warriors in Los Angeles’ opener.

Davis sustained a back injury Thursday when he hit the floor hard after getting undercut by a Clippers’ defender in the third quarter. He returned to action in but is questionable for Sunday.

Also questionable is Troy Brown (back). Dennis Schroeder (thumb), Thomas Bryant (thumb) and Cole Swider (foot) will not play.

The Lakers had an awful shooting night, going just 9 for 45 (20%) from three-point range and 33 of 94 (35.1%) overall. Russell Westbrook missed all 11 field goal attempts while Patrick Beverley was 1 for 7 and Kendrick Nunn went 0 for 7.

The Lakers were hammered on the glass, getting outrebounded 58-38.

Lonnie Walker IV was a bright spot as he finished with a game-high 26 points.

Also on the plus side, Westbrook and Beverley have six steals each through two games.

Trail Blazers vs Lakers Prediction

The teams have split their last eight meetings, the most recent Feb. 9 when the Trail Blazers won 107-105 at home. Simons had 29 points to lead Portland and Nurkic finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds. James scored 30 points in a losing effort.

Following a disappointing 2021-22 season that saw them miss the playoffs, the Lakers are again struggling. Look for the Trail Blazers, buoyed by the return of Lillard, to pull off a minor upset here.

Pick: Trail Blazers +140 ML
