Nevada vs Nebraska Odds, Lines and Spread

The Nebraska Cornhuskers and Nevada Wolf Pack both opened their seasons in style with impressive wins in the Golden Window Classic.

The last time these two teams met was in Reno, Nevada in 1997 in a game that the Cornhuskers won 78-68.

It will mark the first time these two teams have played each other at the Pinnacle Bank Arena, which has been Nebraska’s home since it opened in 2013.

Nebraska Is an Offensive Juggernaut

Nebraska made quick work of McNeese State on Wednesday afternoon jumping out to a 50-28 halftime lead and never looking back. They didn’t take the foot off the gas in the second half as they cruised to a 102-55 victory.

Four different Cornhuskers led the team in scoring with 14 points and every starter ended the game in double digits except for Thorir Thorbjarnarson who ended with 8. Coach Fred Hoiberg called it a “true team performance” and it was one that put 6’9″ point guard, Dalano Banton on the map.

Banton was a matchup nightmare in the 22 minutes he played and he was a stat sheet stuffer. To go along with 14 points, he also added six rebounds, six assists, three steals and four blocks. He is without a doubt an NBA prospect and he is only getting started this season.

Nevada Plays Lockdown Defense

Nevada opened their season by showing off suffocating defense in their battle with North Dakota State. The Wolf Pack held the Bison to 29.1% shooting from the floor including 28.6% from three point land in a 62-48 victory.

Wichita State transfer, Grant Sherfield led the way in scoring for the Wolf Pack with 14 points in a 5-14 shooting effort.  True freshman, Tre Coleman, had a first game to remember as he scored 13 points going 5-5 from the field including 3-3 from beyond the arc.

North Dakota State was never able to get anything going offensively. They only had one player, Tyree Eady, reach double figures in points with 11. Nevada’s defense was fierce inside and outside all day. The 48 points given up were the fewest since 2012 when they held San Jose State to 44.

Best Bet for Thursday Afternoon

Thanksgiving Day is a day for betting football but we shouldn’t neglect college hoops, especially this game.

While Nevada’s defense against North Dakota State was impressive, it’s hard to imagine they will have the same type of success against this Nebraska team. For starters, Nebraska appears to want to play an ultra fast tempo. That’s the fist thing I  look for in a play on the over. According to KenPom.com, their adjusted tempo was 76.1 against McNeese State which would have been good for for second fastest in the nation last year.

Nevada does not play very fast at all and has not for years as they checked in at 287 out of 353 teams in the adjusted tempo last season. That might not sound great for an over play but it is in this situation. It will likely lead to a lower number than we would normally expect from a Nebraska game.

In my opinion, Nevada will be forced to keep pace with Nebraska at some point in this game and I think they have the horses to do it. They shot 47% from beyond the arc on Wednesday which is not sustainable but it does show that they are capable shooters. As a result, if Nebraska pulls away we have team that can still do their part in covering this total.
