Can Texas Tech Beat Kansas Again?

The Red Raiders were in cruise control in the quarterfinals against Iowa State, smacking them by 31 points. But, Oklahoma made their lives a lot more difficult in the semis, with Texas Tech scratching out a 56-55 victory.

It was a very gritty performance from Mark Adams’ group, much in part to the Sooners’ pushing them to the absolute brink.

There was really not a lot of offense in this contest for the Red Raiders, with Davion Warren and Kevin Obanor scoring 11 points apiece. No other player on the squad finished in double-figures though, which was a bit concerning after putting up 72 points against the Cyclones.

Texas Tech had a 40-26 advantage in the second half but went scoreless for seven and a half minutes where the Sooners responded with a 14-0 run.

It was truly a back and forth contest, with Obanor draining two massive triples down the stretch while Clarence Nagolny converted on a pair of three throws to put the Red Raiders ahead for good with under a minute left.  This will only be the program’s second Big 12 title game ever, losing in 2005 to Oklahoma State.

Kansas Rolling

The Jayhawks were absolutely dominant this season, going 26-6 and finishing as runners-up to Baylor in the Big 12. They were probably expecting to play the Bears at some point in this tournament, but the reigning national champions were shocked by Oklahoma on Thursday.

Kansas’s convincing win over TCU in the semifinals pushed their winning streak to four, previously beating West Virginia on Thursday and Texas last weekend in their final game of the campaign.

It was a very well-rounded performance from Bill Self’s group against the Horned Frogs, coming out on top by 13 points. Big 12 Player of the Year Ocha Agbaji led the charge with 22 points in 34 minutes of action, while Mitch Lighfoot and Remy Martin combined for 25 off the bench. KU capitalized heavily on TCU’s mistakes, translating 14 turnovers into 23 points. The Jayhawks also bodied their opponents inside, outscoring them 42-26.

This is the 23rd best offense in the entire nation and has four different players who score in double-digits, with Agbaji leading Kansas with 19.7ppg. Self has so many different weapons at his disposal, but Texas Tech will not be an easy task. A win here would give the Jayhawks their first Big 12 title since 2018.

Texas Tech vs Kansas Prediction

These two teams absolutely battled each other this season, which makes this a hard pick. However, the value I like here is in the points. Both matchups in 2020/21 comfortably hit the over.

Even though Texas Tech has a wonderful defense (2nd in the nation) Kansas is also electrifying offensively. It should be a relatively high-scoring game.

Pick: Over 134 Points (-110)
