Skylar Thompson is expected to start under center on Sunday when the Miami Dolphins play host to the surging Minnesota Vikings in NFL Week 6 action. Read on for Minnesota Vikings vs Miami Dolphins analysis and odds.

A seventh-round pick at this year’s NFL Draft, Thompson has been thrust into a starting role in the wake of injuries to starter Tua Tagovailoa and backup Teddy Bridgewater in the team’s recent back-to-back losses to the Bengals and Jets.

The Vikings travel south riding a three-game win streak after eking out a 29-22 win over Chicago last weekend.

Vikings vs Dolphins Recent History

Sunday afternoon’s contest marks a rare matchup between these teams. The Vikings earned a 41-17 win when they last met in Minneapolis four years ago. The Dolphins last hosted the Vikings back in 2014, tallying a narrow 37-35 victory, and have picked up the win in three of their past four head-to-head meetings and in four straight contests on home turf.

The OVER paid out in each of their past two clashes, and in each of their past two dates in Miami. Home teams have fared well in head-to-head action, claiming victory in eight of nine matchups since 1982.

Minnesota Vikings Betting Outlook

The Vikings have found ways to win, often in spite of themselves, during their current 3-0-0 straight-up run. Minnesota squandered multi-score leads in each of their past two contests, and have been forced to rally late to earn the win in all three of their recent victories.

As a result, the Vikings have claimed victory by a combined margin of just 14 points during their current win streak, and so have disappointed loyal betting fans with against-the-spread losses as favorites in each of those contests.

Minnesota deserves credit for fast starts in each of the past two games. The Vikings scored first in their recent wins over New Orleans and the Bears, while the defense limited opponents to just three total first-quarter points in those contests, and to just 17 total points in the opening frame through five outings.

Quarterback Kirk Cousins has been largely steady, extending his current streak of games with at least one scoring pass to 36 while tossing for seven touchdowns. He has received a big assist from rusher Dalvin Cook who ran for two scores last week while topping 90 rushing yards for the third time this season.

Miami Dolphins Betting Outlook

While the Vikings find ways to win and have remained largely free of major injuries, it has been a different story in Miami. Tua Tagovailoa remains sidelined indefinitely with both an ankle injury and a concussion after taking a brutal hit in the team’s date with the Bengals two weeks ago.

The Dolphins have yet to rebound from the loss of their star quarterback and saw their woes deepen when Teddy Bridgewater was injured on their first possession in last week’s 40-17 loss to New York.

The loss of Bridgewater has forced the Dolphins to turn to the rookie Thompson, who went 19-for-33 for 166 yards, no scores, and one pick the rest of the way. Overall, the Dolphins have produced just one total scoring pass over the past 10 quarters of play. This has placed an added burden on the Dolphins’ rushing corps.

Raheem Mostert racked up a season-high 113 rushing yards and scampered for his first score of the season in last weekend’s loss. However, he remains listed as questionable for Sunday due to a knee injury that limited him in practice.

Vikings vs Dolphins Prediction

The Vikings have been fortunate to escape with recent wins after failing to protect early leads. The Dolphins though are mired in injury and have been forced to again turn to a rookie third-string quarterback, but are still well positioned to extend their current surge as long as they don’t find ways to beat themselves.
